Hey Mister!

My forever-in-the-know-about-art friend Lisa Coris introduced me to artist Robert Ryan today. Not in person, mind you (um, uh, I wish!), but via his website, Mister Rob Ryan. Is it possible to have a mini-crush on someone based solely on their artwork? It would appear so! There's something a tad melancholy and sweet in the sentiment of Mister Rob's lovely work and, well I don't know...it makes me want to meet him.

Rob Ryan is based in (alas!) London, England (hey, I like London!). He works mainly by the means of paper cutting, from which he creates some really moving art, in a variety of applications: screenprints, textiles, ceramics, and lazercutting. I just seem to feel what he's saying very deeply, which is a nice surprise for me. I like the color and happy vibrancy of the almost child-like cut-outs contradicted by the gentle, thought-provoking poetry in his words.

If you visit Mister Rob's etsy shop you will find all sorts of lovely screen prints, and some of these beautiful hand painted tiles. Maybe I'll ask my landlord to finally replace the falling down, cracked, ugly-beige tiles in my bath with these lovely, happy tiles of Mister Rob's. Maybe Mister Rob needs to deliver them personally. Yeah, that's it!

You can read more about what Rob's up to on his blog. Mister Rob also has a new book out, This Is For You (for me? no, you shouldn't have!). Oh, and guess what? I've already bought it.

I believe you can have a crush on someone just from their work, I have one now too. Beautiful, thank you.

Mister Rob does appear to be popping up a fair bit these days and good for him! Yes Victoria...it's the "tad melancholy" that is very endearing to me. Like his blog too...seems like he'd be fun to have tea with...or vodka.

Robert's work is fabulous! I would never have the patience to do such intricate work!
FYI: I recently posted a recap of the Stitch indie craft bazaar in Austin, Texas. I am also hosting a swag bag giveaway. I'd love for you to enter & to pass the word on to your friends!
Cheers,

I have been in love with Mr Rob Ryan's work since setting eyes on it last year.
It both delights and breaks your heart a little at the same time.
It makes me think of the things your would write in the back of a school book or your secret diary about the boy/girl you liked at school but were too shy to tell, or the things other kids said or did that hurt your feelings so much you felt you would break in two.
And the wonderfully awkward first time experiences too.
Those times of innocence and discovery, first love and first heartbreak...
He just has this wonderful ability to connect so personally to the human condition; when you look at the work it makes you feel that he is speaking to you.
And the skill in executing the work is mind blowing!
Stunning, beautiful, poignant, breathtaking.
Mr Rob Ryan- you rock!

I am also fascinated by Rob Ryan's work. He probably would be a really interesting person to meet! I love his wacky sense of humour that shows through his work. Hope you DO meet him in person one day!

He just posted two new tiles in his blog and I feel as though they have your name on them! Truly. This could be the most romantic story since Patrick Moberg and the girl of his dreams (http://www.nygirlofmydreams.com/)... the two of you will be on GMA before you know it. :)

Saw his work at the last fair we were at. It is even better in person. The scale is larger than one would imagine. Fantastic and not totally out of reach.
