Rocking My World.

These glam rock posters from Urban Outfitters are pretty fun. Travel back to the 80's for some Bowie, or go on tour with Blondie in the late 70's. I'm kind of freaking out right now that I was around for both! I have some uncomfortably vivid groupie memories from back in my Flock of Seagulls hairdo days, of a rainy night limo ride around the Hollywood Hills with Clem Burke and the rest of Blondie's band after meeting up with them at a Laurel Canyon pub. Thankfully, I did manage to skip the Poison and Monsters of Rock tours (whew!). Just thinking about those hair days gives me the shivers. And, now, you too, can have the next best thing to being a groupie: quality reproductions of tour posters from those historic concerts and more.

AH! I've bee obsessed with Urban Outfitters this season... These are great.

It's the perfect store to give someone a gift certificate for, i think, because I always want to buy a ton of stuff, but never do because it's all such a treat.

I subscribe to your blog with Google Reader so I read all your posts (when I have time). Normally, I like just about everything you post.

In this case, I really like the look of vintage rock posters (reminds me of the walls of them at The Fillmore), but I've never been a huge fan of reproductions and I think UO's mass manufacturing of them makes them lose some of their initial appeal. They come off as very inauthentic and, dare I say, poser? I feel sort of the same way about "vintage-look" t-shirts that are totally brand new but made to look like a favorite old weathered concert t-shirt. It says, "we can manufacture authenticity and you can buy it." (Which, if you've ever ridden in a limo with Blondie, you know isn't true!)

There's a pub in Laurel Canyon?!

sorry to disappoint teresa. i do that every so often and today seems to be the day all the way around.

marthalena - the pub was the Cat & Fiddle in the center of the cayon at the stop light. and it was an 80's band hangout. i met steve jones of the sex pistols and david lindley there too, as my friend was a waitress there and was a full on groupie. i tagged along. it's on sunset blvd. now.

Ah, so it used to be near the canyon country store?

I walk to the new one on Sunset occasionally and the last time I was there I saw Billy Idol. So I guess the place has retained its cred.

The things I learn from your blog!! Thanks, Victoria!

Victoria, No need to apologize!!! I am not disappointed. I just had an opinion. But, it's just one blog reader's opinion - how miniscule is that? Very, that's how. Would you rather no one ever posted a different opinion on your blog? That's actually a serious, non-rhetoric, question. Because if it really bothered you, I would cease from ever posting anything contrary on your blog. I can't guarantee no one else ever will but I don't want to ever hurt anyone's feelings with my comments. I just think blogs are all about discussions and people's DIFFERENT opinions. That's what I think is exciting about them. That's all. No hard feelings, lovely lady.

I bought a couple of these posters for $5 (!!!) at a store on South Congress in Austin and then had them professionally framed (silver frames with with pink suede matting - so very glam!)
