Unexpected Guests: Marianne Campbell Hockenberry.

I'm so happy today to share the beautiful Marin hilltop home of photographers' representative, Marianne Campbell Hockenberry. I originally met Marianne through my previous job as an art buyer, but we have since become good friends, so I am excited about showing you her lovely new home. Marianne reps some amazing photographers all across the country, and has an great eye for talent, which she clearly translates into designing her beautiful home. I long admired their creative, old Victorian here in the city, and her new, much more modern home in the hills of Mill Valley is just as gorgeous! With vast views of the Pacific Ocean and the rolling hills, it would make for a really great movie set, and Marianne has, in fact, rented the home out for photo shoots and films. What a location! Marianne shares this gorgeous retreat-like home with her husband and musician Tim Hockenberry, and their three beautiful children, Jack, Maxx and Lola. Prepare to swoon...this one's special.

Where do you live?
Panoramic Hwy, Mill Valley, overlooking Muir Woods and in the distance, the Pacific Ocean.

What is your idea of a perfect day in your city?
Starting the day at my local Peet's Coffee, then heading to my office in downtown Mill Valley, riding my cruiser bike to the Loop (my gym) at lunch for a 30 minute workout followed by a chiropractic session with Dr. Josh at Cafe of Life, head back to the office to finish the afternoon, dinner with my family at home, followed by one of our TV show obsessions (The Office or Mad Men).

What don't you leave home without?
My lipstick.

What's your favorite local shop?
Mill Valley Market, and the Summer House.

What's on your wish list?
I wish I had more time...

What's your favorite bargain find or product?
I'm not much of a bargain hunter.

What is your biggest interior design nightmare?
Clutter.

Who are your favorite artists? And why?
I don't have an absolute favorite, but I am a big fan of Karl Blossfeldt (above) and his beautifully graphic, sensual black and white photographs of plants. I also love the work of the photographers I represent (RJ Muna, Jamie Kripke, Michael Lamotte, Christine Alicino, Jim Salzano and Matthew Turley) and the photography of Debra McClinton (below).

Where do you find inspiration?
Dancing inspires me.

Who do you admire and why?
I admire my brother, James Campbell because he is the smartest person I know, and he can accomplish anything he sets his mind to. He is also incredibly giving, generous, kind and funny...and as corny as it may sound, I admire my three children; Maxx, Jack and Lola.

What's the last great book you read?
Beautiful Boy by David Sheff, a chilling story of a dad's journey through his son's meth addiction.

What's your favorite film?
Recently, The Visitor.

Who would you like to sit down to drinks with?
Barack Obama.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Tart frozen yogurt with strawberries, almonds and dark chocolate. And True Religion jeans.

What is your most treasured belonging?
My home (even though it REALLY belongs to the bank...).

Greatest indulgence?
Spa treatments.

What is your idea of living hell?
An empty refrigerator.

What are some of your favorites websites/blogs to visit?
Sfgirlbybay, A Photo Editor, Daily Candy, and of course, my own website, Marianne Campbell Associates.

WOW! What a gorgeous house! Do you know the species of wood that her kitchen cabinets are? Looks like the bathrooms are the same? Thanks!

the house is tastefully decorated, but feels very cold. There's virtually nothing there to reveal anything about her personality (or anyone in her family's). I would not want to grow up in that house. I feel kind of bad for her kids. :-(

Really surprised that you like it so much!

Anon - I'm afraid you are mistaken and maybe that's the fault of my photos. There are walls and walls of family photographs - but I didn't want to violate her children's privacy by posting them all over the web. It is a very warm home, with tons of family mementos and photographs everywhere.

Oh yes, what a delightful, visual treat! I love how she perfectly combined vintage elements with modern design...and all of the personalized details in the home make it a truly unique haven. Thank you so much for sharing this design adventure!

Love the zebra accents also as well as the ghost chairs and lucite bar stools. The mix of acrylic and wood is really unexpected. It's a great home, love it!

As promised, here are the answers to the questions...

** The cabinets in both the kitchen and bathrooms are walnut.

** The tufted couch came from a store in the North Bay called, Cokas Dinko

**The illustrator who did all of the posters is Will Staehle - and the posters are available through his online store on his website
