You Can Go Home Again.

I'll be honest here. I'm not that good at holidays. I think there's a lot of expectations placed on people to make the perfect bird, to be the perfect guest, to make the perfect toast...and to remember to re-button your pants before getting up from the dinner table...you know the drill. So, I don't usually go home. But this year I am...and I'll be facing something vaguely similar to a Royal Tenenbaums tribunal. I could try and explain, but I think most of you probably have sordid stories of your own. I promise to do my best, and be grateful for the people I love. To look past all our flaws, including many of my own. But I do get the wing, damn it! That much I do know. I hope you all have a memorable day. I'll see y'all back here on Monday. In the meantime, feel free to share what you're grateful for.

I'm grateful for the thoughtfulness of my friend's brother, who asked me if I wanted a turkey today!
I'm also grateful for my husband and son, and my father.

I am thankful for my family because we all have goofy warts and still love each other.
I recently heard that when you want to think about someone else's weirdness, then you have to think of 2 things that are not so great about yourself. Well that puts an end to it for me. Have a great Thanksgiving and laugh a lot!

aren't we all looking for 'home'? That mysterious place where we are loved for our flaws as well as our strengths? I'm grateful for the knowledge that we are all much more alike than we are different.

I can't even tell you how much I feel you. No joke.... I likened my family to the Royal Tenenbaums myself today. I hope you find a way to have a nice time.

I'm grateful for good health (I've had cancer twice) and two little boys and a husband who I love and who loves me. Friends, family. Grateful for Obama winning the election!

Good for you for making the trip. I've got my fair share of family drama and know it isn't easy.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am grateful for my family and all the baggage literally and figuratively that accompanies them. I'm looking forward to all 24 of us sitting around a table enjoying each others company.

I'm thankful for a lovely family, who is almost 2000 miles away from me. I know they love me and understand that it is difficult to be together for holidays.
I am so entirely thankful to be able to spend the day with my dear husband and him only! And a fireplace...and a walk by a rushing creek...and a yoga class on Thanksgiving morning.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Oh you will be in very muddy Los Angeles with all of us ? I am thankful to my friends here, who are my family. I wasn't raised with Thanksgiving but I am more than happy to celebrate it.
Happy Thanksgiving to you.

My motto this Thanksgiving with my family is Assume Good Intentions. I hope that that will help us all just try to relax and enjoy one another. Maybe it can be your motto too. And I am thankful to know that even though that will be my motto, my family is not Royal Tenenbaum-ish at all. Just weird in their own ways. : )

Can't wait to hear about your weekend, and hope it's sordid-free.

Thank you for always inspiring and for sharing this with us.

I think a lot of us have the dream of how a family should be but the reality of it, we're all just human. With being human comes having fears, pains and angers, and those things can easily get in the way of harmony.

I'm being hesitant myself to go "home" and spend christmas with my family. One on one, we're all people who want nothing but love and we all get along beautifully. Put us together and, well, let's say most cats and dogs get along better.

This year I'm practising the ancient art of "leave me out of it" and I'll do my best to focus on the positive things.

Hopefully I won't have to take a vacation to recoup from the holidays! ;-)

I'm grateful for friends and family and that magical group of people that fall into both categories.

Oh, and perky tits engendered by "bad backs."

I'm thankful for discovering your blog this morning -it's lovely!
I'm thankful for my family, my health, my job, my cats, a roof over my head, sunshine, my space, my freedom, nature, food, warmth...I could keep going, but I won't. I just try to concentrate on the thankful things as opposed to the meal deal and general holiday stress (I'm the only vegetarian, and I keep my politics to myself, but the bird thing is pretty oogie to me). I still hope you got your wing though! :)
