Time Out With Erin: Volunteer!

Do some charity work. I was recently inspired by a young gal named Carolyn Rubenstein, who began her nonprofit organization at the ripe age of 14. Seriously. 14? Craziness. She's having an art auction here if you're interested in aiding the organization, but this post isn't about her --- it's about you. National Volunteer Week is commemorated April 19-25, "Celebrating People in Action", so no time like the present.

From Carolyn's Art Auction.

Get off your buns and volunteer for a local organization, or start your own volunteer project, or heck -- a nonprofit like Carolyn. Why not? There are plenty of opportunities to be found right here.

"Service to others is the payment you make for your space here on earth." - Mohammad Ali.

*And, in case you're unfamiliar, Time Out is another installment of a new Wednesday column brought to you by Erin Loechner, Editor of Design for Mankind...dedicated to tearing you away from behind the computer monitor and on to enjoying the simple things in life. Enjoy! As always, thanks so much Erin!

Hey! If we're talking about volunteering, don't forget the Scouts. If you have little ones or enjoy being creative it is totally fun and almost all members of the scouting association are volunteers. I work with the 6-8 year olds and really enjoy it. When was the last time you did paper mache?

Our city is planning a community garden of raised beds, a hoophouse, and cutflower garden. I can't wait to volunteer to grow some veggies!
