I was recently seeking out inspiration for the blog redesign (it
is coming soon, I swear! Perhaps another couple of weeks and we'll be launching!) so I headed over to the
Kinokuniya Bookstore in Japantown. I discovered a great book about
Yurio Seki, a Japanese graphic design who draws mellow, brightly colored designs, and whose portfolio of work includes everything from magazine art direction to bookbinding and package design. In 2001
Yurio launched her own brand in Japan,
Salvia, which carries her textile, apparel and interior accessories, and book designs.

I love most things Japanese. They are so unusual, graphic and original in their designs. Fun pics!

ReplyDeleteI love picture no 2, it's such a gorgeous colour... But the book looks delightful, I'm going to have to contain myself here (I've actually discovered that it's possible to have too many gorgeous books when you live in a tiny two-room apartment)!

ReplyDeleteI love that bookstore. I think especially because it is in the weird shopping plaza which at first glance I think might be going out of business and then suddenly it is full-to-the brim with japanese families out for sunday brunch.
ReplyDeleteThat shot of the soap and the girl with soapy hands is pretty amazing. Sweet and cute yet spare. American publishing jams in everything and the kitchen sink but the Japanese seem to have found a place for "empty" yet complete imagery.
