Design*Sponge Gives Back.

Beginning January 2007, Grace Bonney's Design*Sponge Shop will be donating 10% of its ad revenue and 100% of the proceeds from goods marked “Scholarship Items” (such as this lovely drawing by Alyson Fox and the gorgeous hand painted pillow below by Lena Corwin) to the Design*Sponge Scholarship.

Inspired by the art and design students Grace has met through the Design*Sponge site, the Scholarship is intended to assist art and design students in the pursuit of their creative endeavors through financial support. Grace hears (as do I in my line of work) from talented students who cannot afford to take career-changing internships or buy new materials and pay tuition so she decided it was time to give back. The D*S Scholarship will help give the next generation of designers and artists some financial support as they continue to learn and create. I am inspired and cheered that there are people in the world like Grace who encourage creativity and lend a helping hand. As someone who has struggled with the conflict of being a 'professional' career girl, versus following my creative dreams, I know how far that support can go.
