Credenza-frenza.

If you haven't noticed yet, credenzas are back in a big way. My parents had the dream credenza and, along with a lot of their belongings, I keep wondering where the heck it is now. I have a small Lane credenza I found at the Alemeda Flea Market, but it doesn't quite make my heart sing, so I've been seeking one that does. I know Grace at design*sponge has been hot on the trail for her perfect credenza, too. Perhaps they're popular again because they look sleek and stylish and are an excellent piece to create a centerpiece for a room and display fabulous accessories. Another plus is that credenzas usually offer a great amount of hidden space for storing away whatever it is you want to tuck out of sight, which is great for apartment dwellers. I use mine to hold all my cameras and equipment. So, without further ado, here's a peek into some of the great looking credenzas out there in all their glorious shapes and sizes.

Many thanks to the flickr taste makers who shared their credenza style with us in order of appearance: janicapaints, emma, amber in norfolk, artdsgnr, bird in the hand, sandra139, lazybone cafe and sfduchamp.

Great photos! I love my credenza and would buy more of them if I had the space. Good luck on your credenza hunt!

Oh man, this brings up a sore point... I used to work in the Time & Life building in NY, and a couple years ago they started gut renovating the floors, one at a time. All the original Eames furniture got tossed in the 70s (AAAAGH) but a lot of the floors did still have solid 60s wood stuff; I claimed a round walnut side table (2-inch thick top), an amazing lamp and two great side chairs. But I could not figure out how to transport or store (at the time I was in a small brooklyn apt.) one of the fabulous credenzas. They were at least 6 feet long, with cupboard doors and shelves, and would have been SO useful.... Sigh!

Oooh - I have much credenza love. I've started spotting them about looking so cool and useful. The top one is my fave.

Sigh. I wish I still had mine. It was a nice, very heavy, darkwood lowboy with sort of an elevated surfboard top (ok it wasn't a surfboard. It was wood, but I don't know how else to describe it.) When I moved it was too heavy to bring along, so I sold it. All these beautiful examples make me want another one.

sounds like we all have credenza-envy!

eric - you should ask bird in the hand where she got it. :)

i found this link to the poster here, but it says sold out. if there's enough demand, maybe they'll reprint them. worth asking!

Oh don't make me go down this road!! My parents, having come to the U.S. from Copenhagen, furnished the home in pure Danish modern funishings, complete with the rope chair and sleek casual, armless, sofa with removable angular cushions in the back that we used for sleepovers in the "den".

When I think what I let go, as I look at these wonderful credenzas you have shown, and I have used, it hurts! The chairs, credenzas, coffee table, and on and on! I feel your pain! :-)

P.S. I did keep the dining room table and chairs, the table used for years as, um, a laundry table and then one day, some years back, urgently resurrected as my breakfast table and chairs, which is used to this day. That's my story of woe!

A fine collection you have put together.

These are fabulous! We have one from DWR, and we love just saying the word, like if someone forgets where they put their keys, we must include the word "credenza". It brings back wonderful memories of our 70's living room, which resembled a Star Trek set, including a funky, long credenza. Thanks for sharing!
