Mati of the Mission.

I just discovered the wonderful work of San Francisco-based artist Mati Rose. Mati shares a studio with about eight other artists in the Mission District of San Francisco, called Compound 21, where she's constantly changing the inspiration she hangs all around her nook of the studio. The Mission is such a colorfully vibrant neighborhood, I wonder if this is where she might draw her inspiration for such fantastic color combinations?

I was first captured by Mati's newest series of patchwork paintings, which are painted on the most beautiful thick handmade wooden panels, which were made by one her talented friends.

Mati's flicker site also has an amazing array of her work. Even her Polaroids are cropped really well and have a really lovely quality of light to them. I love them!

Don't forget to check out Mati's great blog, and visit her etsy shop, Suspect (named for her little pink pirate cat, of course). And over on her website, please take moment to read her bio. You will crack up. Here's an excerpt:

2 Truths and a Lie Bio:
1) Mati spent 4 months in a Colombian prison, teaching art.
2) Mati's boyfriend is allergic to wheat and Mati loves all things wheat.
3) Mati's parents are pirates.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Obviously, the lie is answer #2.
