Everything You Wanted to Know About Encaustics.

Hadley Hutton is a Portland-based freelance illustrator, artist, and children’s book author & illustrator. Her work is a really lovely blend of traditional illustration, painting and collage. Hadley draws inspiration from Asian patterns and motifs as well as Victorian die-cuts. She creates her work by layering colored pencil and watercolor pencil drawings, ink, archival digital media, pastels and lastly something called encaustics. Apparently, encaustic is a wax based paint that often consists of beeswax, resin, and pigment. The wax is kept molten, and applied to a surface. The surface is then reheated by a heat-gun or blow torch to fuse the paint together. Pretty hot! (Sorry, bad pun, had to be done.) No matter how they're created, they're really beautiful. You can find her work for sale here.
