Push 'em back! Push 'em back! Waaaaay back!

I'm not clear why, but I love this wicked, little cheerleader trophy from etsy shop, Sidedish. Maybe because, in 11th grade my 12th grade boyfriend (the high school quarterback) wanted to go to the Senior Dance with one of the cheerleading squad, who shall remain nameless, Lisa G, because, she too, was a Senior. Uhhh, yeah, right. I very carefully and quite calmly ripped the St. Christopher from my neck (the obvious proof that we were going steady, duh), threw it at him with excellent aim, if I do say so myself, and said, "Have a good time. Rah!".

I then switched from the jock team to the surf team and never looked back. I might need to have this as some sort of homage to my freedom from jockdom.

It reminds me of the cheerleading trophy in the 'Witch' episode from season 1 of Buffy. Oops, I let my inner nerd show a little!

That whole post might as well have been in a different language as far as I'm concerned! But if Saved By The Bell has taught me nothing else, it's that cheerleaders are called Kelly and girls called Lisa wear day-glo outfits. So if you were up against a cheerleader called Lisa I can only imagine what a fashion catastrophe she must have been.

Did you really say, "Rah!"?

Yep. Facetiously, of course.

It must have been sad when it happened, but hilarious the way you recounted it. Surfer boys were way cuter anyway. :)

i love this story- it just proves the shallowness of high school and the absurdity of it all

aaahhh the surf... all weekend I felt the need to be buoyant (but couldn't... I was painting the house instead)... must be a raised in Michigan thing... another point for waterfront lifestyle...

Wow-- I'm one of those people who can't think of the perfect thing to say until, like, 24 hrs. later. You ROCK!

I love this post and this picture. I know it's been up for awhile but I just had a great idea...a graphic poster with an "anti-cheerleader" image and that slogan you led with---"Push 'em back! Waaaaaay back!" I'd love one in my home. At the moment it fits my lifestyle more than "Keep Calm and Carry On." Love calm...but working full time with two children under the age of 5...it just ain't gonna happen.

Love your blog! Thanks so much!
