Domino Decorating Contest - Oooooh Awkward!

I just noticed - I'm not a finalist and there I was asking you to please vote for me!
Oh, so awkward - sorry! It was fun while it lasted, though. Thanks Domino!
The Domino Magazine Decorating Contest voting begins today, Tuesday, October 23rd.
Go vote for one of the beautiful rooms - there's some lovely design work there.

Victoria, I'm afraid you're not part of the five finalists chosen by Domino. So sad...

How can this be? You're room is WAY better than those finalists! I'm not digging any of the five - booooo. You were far and away my absolute favourite entry Victoria.

Very good!
It's beautiful!

Kisses!

Gosh, I thought you'd be a finalist for sure.

I'm a little surprised by the finalists as well. Of course the rooms are nice, but none of them are really jumping out at me.

Oh well, you get the joy of living in your beautiful space, half the fun is working on it right?

Hmm. I'm disappointed by the lack of diversity among the 5 finalists that were chosen. I see a lot more interesting stuff going on in the submissions that didn't make the final cut...including Victoria's.

I agree by the finalists too. I only saw one that I could say I liked and one I could kinda-like. Yours is so much better.

Um, yeah...? Not to be insulting but some of the finalists were a bit "yawn". I was like "Really?" Well, you know we'd vote for you, Victoria! I LOVE your room! I mean c'mon!

We only get to vote for FIVE finalists!? That completely stinks. What were they thinking?

Victoria, I'm sorry you didn't make the cut but from the looks of it most of the rooms I thought were the best didn't so it puts you in good company.

I went to link to vote but couldn't find it....I wanted to vote for your room! It's definitely one of the most spirited rooms that was shot for the contest....warm, comfortable, vintage charm.

Rats - not there!?!? I wish I could vote for you!!

those rooms don't look half as good as yours. crap.

I went there to vote on yours, but it wasn't there! What was there, however, was nowhere near as beautiful as yours. I couldn't bring myself to vote for any of them. You are the winner, in my book.

I get the Domino asthetic...I usually really like it, but a little diversity would not have killed them. I find all of the finalist's rooms (except maybe 1) somewhat bland and boring...none of them are particularly fresh and exciting. Your room has the same sort of vibe as most of the finalists, but executed better w/ more layers and personality. I just don't get it?

Hi, I have to say I too am pretty dissapointed by the finalist selection. I wrote about it on my brand new blog too. margaretthethird.blogspot.com

I don't get the last room AT ALL. Which editor is Jen friends with?

Oh water off a duck's back... People's choice awards are ALWAYS way better!
WE all know your space is sensational and your taste far exceeds these finalists!
Find more meaning in what we, the general public, says, not a *few* people representing a magazine....
Your space is sacred and special to you... that is ALL that really matters, right?!
Chin up & plenty-o-hugs to you!! :)

It's crazy that you're not a finalist. Boo, Domino.

nice blog! (i just discovered it)

Don't be so awkward, Victoria.
The finalists are lovely even if both you and Joy have been shunned. Give them a chance. It's not a popularity contest.
You have been represented in many places. We think it's great. How much more validation do you need?
Be at peace with your space. You are the one who has to live in it.

Well, let me just say that I love your confidence! ;-)

I did like your room best, so I didn't vote.

That rug is wonderful. I have seen similar and never liked them- didn't work. But in your room it's perfect. I have to go back and see what makes it different.

Such an inviting room.

thanks y'all - there's some lovely rooms out there (i love Joy's bedroom), so it's fun to see them anyhow.

patrick - i'm sorry - you misread me - I meant how awkward for ME to have asked you to vote, when I wasn't even a finalist! that's what is awkward - I did not realize that the editors picked finalists first. my bad! :)

i am so happy for all the nice comments about my home, and am not seeking validation - but $10,000 would have been a nice start to a new business venture, right?

Your room is so lovely. Better luck next time perhaps?

you were ROBBED victoria! =P Seriously, those rooms screamed to the trade only. I would much rather curl up with a good book on your couch any day. You got my vote.

Was this your room? I that case you would have gotten my vote... now of course I knew nothing of the contest, oh well.

Also: your blog is wonderful.

Anonymous said...

Well, I wanted to vote for you anyway.

i'm really stunned your room and a few others i liked didn't make the cut. your room is much more representative of what i thought was the domino aesthetic. i'd like to know what their judging criteria was. these rooms are very pretty, but over stylized and too much like what i see in all the other magazines. where's the maverick, quirky, boho, gorgeousness i've come to expect from domino??????

Shoot!!! I was sure you were going to place in the top three.

so funny victoria! i just entered your friend grace's contest for the eames rocker giveaway. i sent out an e-mail to all my friends and family to ask them to go to her blog and vote for me.....ooooor not. i too discovered a little late that i was NOT a finalist :)

Oh! Your room is way more beautiful and inviting than those finalists'. Don't bother baby. May I ask a few questions to you via e-mail (about how to arrange a living room book-case)?

yr room looks real cool...the only issue is from a house cleaning point...since white maybe difficult to maintain...keep going!!!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed with the finalists Domino picked. There was only one room I felt compelled to vote for. The others all looked like a cover of Domino. How about some diversity?

V, I end up voted for the room in Mill Valley, cuz the blue used I feel is one that us sfgirlbybayers would probably use. I think it's a safe bet that your room was #6 then.

Regards,
T from the hood.

I thought there was something wrong w/my browser when I couldn't see your entry. Now I know that there's something wrong with the judges for not picking you as a finalist.

Looky here, no design bloggers are in the finals!! The popular bloggers don't have to worry about hassling their readers for votes! I hate suck-ups!

Hi Victoria,

I just got my new Domino mag in the mail today and low and behold, your room is there! Check out page 32 on the bottom right. So maybe it is a finalist? If not, you are still in the mag! Exciting, congrats!
