Phonies.
Holden Caulfield is my favorite literary character, and Catcher In The Rye, my favorite novel.
Urban Outfitters is now offering up the book jacket as wall art. Cover art posters - faithful reproductions of the first edition design that graced the novel's cover in the 1950-60's.
Holden might say this is 'phoniness' of the worst kind. Regardless, I love it.

even if it wasn't your favourite character and your favourite novel, that is some seriously slick illustrational goodness.
Ooooh, classic book covers + wall art = I'm going to Urban Outfitters tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!
I've been following your blog since I found it a few months ago. Great site, thanks for blogging!
janelle - i think these are available online only, so you might check first before making the trip.
I really enjoy your blog. I love design (of all kinds) and I miss the Bay Area. I remember reading this book in High School back in the 80's. I finished it the same day I started it and was one of those kids who had wished someone like Holden was around to befriend. I attempted to re-read it as an adult and couldn't get into it like I did previously. I put it aside and wondered if I had become one of those despised adults. I still consider it a favorite book though. The younger me related totally to Holden and she's still apart of me.
That's probably more info than you wanted to know, but great books kinda bring that out. Wonderful poster :)

thanks for sharing christine. there was a recent segment on NPR on this very subject. i think Holden represented a lot of us in our youth. they asked the guests on NPR if they could imagine Holden as an adult, and neither guest could. i kinda feel the same way.
