Sunday Outside the City.

I've been out of town for a long weekend, so I am a little late with my regular Sunday in the City post. And this week, I actually am bringing you a bit of my weekend outside the city. A visit near San Luis Obispo, where on Sunday we hit the swap meet at the old Sunset Drive-In. I just love old drive-in theaters, so it was a treat to capture some images of a dying old dinosaur. Bring back the drive-in!

No more nachos.

Snack Shack.

Exit, stage right.

Tune In.

It's showtime.

Wait until sunset.

Swapped.

I also share your love for vintage drive-ins. Classic.

I love these! Yay for vintage drive-ins. I went all the time in college; there is just something wonderful about the experience of watching a movie from your car.

When I was little, we would all pile into the car in our pajamas and take pillows and blankets and our own popcorn. So fun!

Great pics of the drive in. We still have an old drive in close by, I hope it doesn't disappear like most of them have. Why is every drive in theater snack bar called the Snack Shack?

I go to San Luis. When is the swap meet (gosh, I just love a swap meeet!).

Our drive in just closed. Yup, what fun. Remember how you used to wrestle with the sound thingie on your passenger window...once you got the darn thing on then you had to adjust the sound!

Loved 'em when I was little; loved 'em when I was a teen and necking with my date!

This drive in is still in commission! They have shows every night. I went to school in SLO and went to the drive in often. It was a lot of fun! There's a lot of good shopping in slo. Try "LuLu's" in downtown slo. It was one of my favorites. Let me know if you want some things to see while you visit the central coast. (go to the Cliffs hotel, in shell beach, for happy hour. Cheaper margaritas and beer and free tacos! the hotel is on a cliff overlooking the ocean--absolutely beautiful!)

Yay! I grew up right next to SLO, and I was actually selling a bunch of old stuff at that swap meet last week! It's kind of a weird swap meet, but I hope you found some goodies! I have lots of good high school memories in that drive-in too. I'm so glad that it is still around and is popular.

Oh I'm so jealous....old drive-in and swap meet. Oh actually we have one of them in Melbourne, but I want to go to USA for taking photos and such fabulous vintage finds, which you always highlight and photograph so well.

SLO is our annual family vacation spot. We just love it and have driven by this theater many times on our way to the beach.

Thanks guys! I love old drive-ins and this one is still showing movies, as well as being a swap meet on Sundays. I have fond memories of the drive-in with my family, and later sneaking in (in the trunks of our cars!) in high school.

I live in a hot area so when I was older, we would find someone with a truck, load up all the lawn chairs we could find...along with a cooler (filled with beer, whatever, of course). Back the truck in the stall or sit outside on the lawn chairs.

Those were the days, my friend.

SF: I am still looking for one of those photo booths (maybe I can find one at the fair?). I love how you framed the pictures.

I look forward to these pictures every week.

When I went to San Francisco this spring, I made sure to do a quick review of your site to see if there was any place not to be missed!

we used to watch the movies here from the graveyard beyond the fence, tuning in to the radio...good times.
