Cha-Cha-Changes! Again!

Well, I've gone and done it. I just can't be stopped! I've rearranged the furnishings in my apartment yet once again. After the photo shoot last week, the stylist and I chatted a bit and decided to try a new layout.

The crew was kind enough to take down the bookcase that was bolted to the wall since I moved in (oh, bless them - I always just hated it there!) and we moved it to a spot in the bedroom (more to come about that - the bedroom is getting an overhaul, too!). That freed up this wall for the sofa, which really opened up the room and gave a it a whole new look!

We swapped the direction of the dining room table, and I added a bench I had in the entry (which I plan on having a box cushion for) and moved the buffet to the entrance hall.

Then, we created a little cocktail bar next to the kitchen pass-through, which I think looks quite festive. Time for a party!

Lastly, I moved all of my artwork into two big gallery walls, moved my desk to the wall where the sofa used to live, and then moved my Knoll Tulip Table to this nook as well. The stylist suggested this, and I wasn't too sure about floating furniture in the middle of the room, but I think it works quite well, and also acts as an extra work space for me, which I am always desperate for! So, there you have it...the new look. For now.

i love framed prints/artworks, especially when there's lots of them! I am so envy of your two fab walls filled with beautiful artworks! creates such a great focus point too!

Inspiring how you change it up so often! Is that cowhide pillow a pattern or real?
(i'm hoping its not real skin!)

I have been thinking about putting a bunch of my work in different frames for my new office and I'm glad you did it so I could see what it looks like.:) I really like it! I relocated and can't paint the walls and I love how this looks against the white. Done. You've inspired.

V-

What's your square footage? I can't believe how many groupings you've fitted in there and it still looks so airy.

Your place looks great! I really like the gallery walls, and the dining room table looks nice with the bench! Oh, and, those windows are just so big and beautiful! I'd love windows like that!

alicia - not sure about this room itself, but the whole apartment is about 900 sq feet.

Your place looks wonderful! I haven't visited in a while - I am having trouble keeping up with all the blogs I love. But how happy I was that I visited just in time to see another version of your apartment.

Love the grey striped pillow on your sofa, that was unexpected. Everything comes togehter so well.

I don't remember the bookcase, I'll have to look at previous entries.

Great job. Can't wait to see the bedroom!

I love it. What I do notice tho is that you have a but load of chairs in a small space. Guests must love you!

Wow! I can't believe what removing that bookcase did. You really have such a great space to work with too. I also have to admire your lack of a television, that makes everything seem so much more elegant.

I have a request! Can we see more pictures of your bedroom? If it's not too personal? Occasionally you can see on the side what appears to be some amazing built in storage, and that huge window is to die for.

urban - i am a chair-oholic! ;)

anon - yes! pics of the bedroom are forthcoming...but i'm doind a redesign in there, so please check back! thanks!

Great ideas - love the gallery walls and your little cocktail table. I think I might have to make one for my place :)

swanklighting said...

First of all, gorgeous! Second of all... you must share with us your secrets to creating wall collages of artwork. That is one of the most beautifully proportioned and spaced wall art collage I've ever seen. Do you have some sort of secret or did you just sort of start hanging and hope for the best/

Oh V you are my inspiration ! i love what you have done, a recreation of a personal art gallery. The white background with those pink accents are so beautiful..what a great taste !

Sara Downton said...

i love EVERYTHING! especially your art walls, i hope i have something as inspiring when i get my own place. <3

sfgirlbybay said...

london girl - i've always wanted a little cocktail table, and they set this one up for a shoot, so i lucked out!

allthingsaustin - it was a 'hope for the best' - i just grab the hammer & nails and move them around as i go. i do consider color balance, but other than that, it's a pretty pathetic technical mess! ;)

thanks again everyone for your very kind comments!!

The new arrangement is so lovely! I really enjoy the gallery of paintings, as well as the special spaces (like the cocktail bar) throughout the area. Beautiful!

It looks great. You've inspired me to do some gallery walls of my own. I am way to obsessed with everything being symmetrical!

As always, you are an inspiration :)

I love this little pink table!!

I was just curious about where you get most of your artwork? Etsy? And if it's Etsy or Supermarket or something, do you remember who the artists are?
Thanks!

love the new look but think you need more height above your sofa. how about putting more of your art wall there and where the blackboard is? the two side by side art walls are a little heavy; one wall and large groupings above sofa and dining would be more balanced. and the blackboard would look killer with some art above your desk.

I love it...it looks amazing!!!!
It makes me want to go declutter and keep only the things I love!!!!

Off I go!!!

Ok so now you just need to finish packing your clothes... because I'm moving in.

It looks amazing. But then I biased as I love Danish modern. The bursts of pink are great.

I love the new makeover! I see the hula girls relocated to the office, so I can't wait to see what's replaced them in the bedroom...yes I'm a regular :) One question I always have when viewing your amazing home, is do you have a TV? And if so, where are you hiding it? That may be a good blog post - camouflaging the TV. Thanks for inspiring us all!

sfgirlbybay said...

ashlyn - yes, a lot of my art is from etsy artists: wexford girl, matte stephens, betsy walton, green chair press, mindy wilson, camilla engman, yellena, alyson fox...

rachel - no, i don't watch TV anymore. i used to watch way too much and gave it up a few years ago. i still rent or buy series i love, like Mad Men, or Dexter on iTunes and watch them on my desktop computer. but, yes, that is a great idea for a post!

Totally unsolicited here, but I wonder what the room would look like with warmer white/creme paint on the walls? I feel like your art and your white pieces would pop out more.
Your home is so fabulous--truly!

I LOVE IT!

Curious to know if you still have your framed photograph wall?

I love how your pictures are hung all gallery style. In my last apartment I totally copied, um I mean was inspired by, how you had your's hung over your couch.

Last night when my roommate was said, lets rearrange the living room I jumped right in and now the lay-out is so much better. Reading your blog over the past year helped me embrace totally rearranging the living room and not be nervous that it would turn out bad. So I guess I wanted to de-lurk and say thanks!
