Time Out With Erin: Make a Mixed Tape.

Make a mixed tape. You know, old school style. Sit down with a nice beverage, a few floor pillows and a radio. Grab your old cassette player and go to town! There's something fantastic about the combination of scratchy air time and the ever-present radio DJ that can take you back to a specific moment in your life. Capture that and know that you'll have it for years to come. For inspiration, read Love Is A Mix Tape by Rolling Stone contributor Rob Sheffield . It's a goodie, I promise.

OR, check out these fun mix tape goodies from around the world:
Mix Tape USB Drive from SUCK UK.
Mix Tape Zine from Leeloo.
Mix Tape Tote from Perpetual Kid.
Mix Tape V-Neck from Urban Outfitters.
Mix Tape Pillowcases from ModCloth.
Mini Mix Necklace from Buy Olympia.

Enjoy, and rock on!

*And, in case you're unfamiliar, Time Out is another installment of a new Wednesday column brought to you by Erin Loechner, Editor of Design for Mankind...dedicated to tearing you away from behind the computer monitor and on to enjoying the simple things in life. Enjoy! As always, thanks so much Erin!

I still have all of my old tapes at home in my old room. I love them. How do people make them now? Itunes is not as fun as sitting there on the floor of your room going through all your tapes and CDS to put together the perfect mix!

such a fun idea. i still have my old mix tapes, including the one where i cut apart pictures of myself and leonardo dicaprio (a la romeo and juliet) and stuck them together. creepy...but also hilarious.

real love is indeed a mix tape, sitting for hours by the radio to hear that song and recording it. getting your parents to buy THAT album so you could use that song. such heartfelt stirrings. though I still love putting them together on my iPod - it's just not the same. this always reminds me of High Fidelity.

I miss mix tapes! Burning a cd, downloading a playlist... just not the same.

Tapes!?! What are tapes? Just kidding!

I don't have any cassette tapes or any cassette tape players left. I've moved 9 times in the last 11 years...so everything got thrown out.

Although I don't tend to save things. My sister has tapes, but nowhere to play them!

I regret it now though. Some of my music got lost in the tightening process.

Everyone who knows what a cassette tape is...is showing their age right now!

I thought we're supposed to keep that a secret!

man, I wasn't even around for the cassette tape era. I like the idea though. Soon even cds will be out of date... with all of this itunes nonsense and what ever is going to be the next big thing. I really don't like technology anymore... things are getting to unpersonal...

If only I still have tape recorder....those were the days, but honestly I don't like recording with tapes, forward and rewind, no way to know exactly where you are...but they're really good nostalgic items.
