Give Me Liberty!
One of the shopping highlights of my trip to London was a visit to Liberty. Liberty is a gorgeous, one of a kind department store, a beautiful oasis of good design right in the middle of London. Not only is their selection of home accessories, fabrics, wallpapers and furnishings stunning, the staff couldn't have been more friendly, or helpful. While some stores of this calibre you might find snooty sales people, not Liberty! I asked if I might take some photographs and their reply was 'sure!' - I didn't always get such a kind reply when I made this request in other well-known London department stores. Here's a look at some of the beautiful, the mod and the very eclectic things we found, including this charming Bunny Rabbit Lamp I just had to bring hopping across the pond home with me!
Since 1875, Liberty has been synonymous with luxury and great design. In the 1890's Arthur Liberty built strong relationships with many leading English designers. Many of these designers were key figures in the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements and Arthur Liberty was instrumental in the development of Art Nouveau through his encouragement of such designers. The Liberty store became one of the most prestigious in London. Liberty still stands for integrity, value, quality and above all beautifully designed products. The Liberty vision and spirit continues today within their beautiful iconic Tudor building. Just take a look! And, if you're not planning a trip to London anytime soon, remember, you can shop Liberty online.

glad to see you back, victoria! i hope the trip was amazing :) i sent a friend to liberty this past weekend too...perhaps you crossed paths! it is SUCH a beautiful store, isn't it? sigh...why is there nothing like it in the states?
Oh wow! It looks too fantastic. I hope they had a little corner to have some tea and cakes. I'd want to stay there all day. =)
these pictures are wonderful! i love the deep purple wall and mirror - they're just slightly ominous and very glamorous. would you be interested in trading links?
ah, the bunny :) this all just makes me want to jump on an airplane and go visit...
Excelent choice. Liberty is my favourite shop in the world. Did you try their tea and cake?
wowzers!
What an amazing space... Welcome back!
I love Liberty. The creaky floorboards make me so happy!
Wow - I could spend a lot of time in their - looks awesome! Love your little bunny lamp by the way - too cute!
This definitely look like almsot a whole reason to go to London all by itself. Seems as though you had a fantastic time. Thanks for sharing!
I adore Liberty. I stock up on Miller Harris perfume whenever I'm in London.
I love Liberty. Especially their furniture dept (great lighting) and haberdashery - which is fabulous. Did you go to their tea shop - I love it there. Liberty has changed a bit over the last few years (it's about a 1/3 smaller, COS now inhabit the old bit) but it is still lovely - it's where I always go to buy handbags.
Lovely photo essay! Liberty is an absolute thrill to visit! So inspiring!
it's such a lovely store - it's definitely a place you must see! and yes, we had high tea here, too! it was delicious!
Even my 80 yr old grandpa told me it was a must see!! How are the prices?

libby - how cute! he's quite right.
i thought the prices were quite fair. i mean, they have some very exclusive furnishings, and designers, but there were still things i could buy - like the bunny without having a heart attack about it. it's not dirt cheap, but i wasn't shocked either.
Victoria,
Welcome home! Sure sounds like you had a fabulous trip. I LOVE the photos... especially the tall red framed mirror. And the bunny lamp is such a great souvenir... whenever you see it, it'll remind you of a terrific, spontaneous flight of fancy to London. Yay!

Welcome back! I'm so glad you had such a great trip, and a bit envious of your visit to Liberty. It is one of my favorite shops in London (I can see I'm not alone in this) and I haven't been to the UK in many years now.
