Midlife Crisis?

"Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through
traffic in a car you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the
clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it."

I'm having a real hard time being normal lately.
Stay tuned for change. If I say it
out loud, maybe I will change faster.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm on the verge of making some big changes, too. At some point, life needs to make sense on a very basic level, doesn't it?
btw: you have pretty eyes!

Going back to the work a day world is in my near future and well...I am trying to think of ways to get out of it. Normal sucks. xo

Hi there. Sundays used to be the worst days for me, I would always get sick to my stomach thinking about having to go into the office the next day. Now that I've cut off all ties with that world, Sunday is now my favorite day of the week. Good luck with your plans and I hope your Sundays get better really really soon!!

In our society, that is normal, but it's nothing to be proud of. I haven't been normal for years and I wouldn't change a thing.

Good luck with it!

Change is always scarier in the contemplation than in the doing.

At least that's been my experience.

I have been having the same feelings and urges lately and I feel like I am in a good life-space in order to make a change, myself. Good luck with your new adventures!

I so totally hear what you're saying.

Good luck, V. BTW, if you haven't already read it, you should check out "Your Money or Your Life". That book is all about achieving the financial independence to leave "Normal" ;-)

FWIW, if I were a gazillionaire, I'd hire you to decorate my place. You are more talented than you know... I was born without the visual gene, so I really admire it in others.

I'm completely there with you right now, and rock on for saying it out loud. Normal has never really cut it for me and I'm looking to change things up myself. You have such a great eye and the talent to back it up, living in SF there's bound to be a marvelous opportunity for you.

Better yet, make your own opportunities!

I had that same exact feeling when I left the advertising world. One day I woke up and said, life is too short to be spending each and every day doing things that own me and I don't love. What ever it is your are thinking about changing, I say go for it!

Normality breeds contempt.

I so relate. With your talents, I don't imagine you should have a tough time carving out a niche that you would enjoy. Good luck.

Can I just tell you that I do feel this way every once in a while. About a year ago I started saying to people "I want to change my career" a lot of friends were surprised, and after saying it enough times I realized it wasn't just something to say I really needed the change. I looked and looked and now I'm going to school in a 2 year program for something I'm really excited about (fabric design) Though every once in a while I still get the feeling that I want to discard all posessions and start a commune in Oregon, at least I know I'm on track for something and will be much happier once I get there.
Keep saying it to yourself and you'll make it happen.

Tee hee. Isn't it silly that we work to live? Sometimes I think we forget what living is. :)

Sigh...I so hear you, too.

it's like you are inside my head as well...
Are we living to work, or working to live?

oh yeah, I totally hear you.
but how to fix it? that's the big question. let us know if you figure it out!

Me too... After 8 years of a stable and (mostly) creative but completely meaningless job, I am ready for something new. Wish there were lots more safety nets around, though. I wish I had as much confidence in my ability to make the right change as I do about yours.

Oooooh - sounds exciting!

Say it out loud, even if it's just a whisper at first!

good luck. get inspired and do what makes you happy - if it helps any, you inspire me. you've got a couple of years on me but you have lotsa stuff (not just stuff, i mean a dog, a home, the blog, etc) that i really admire.

Oh yah, I hear you there. The scariest thing I ever did was leave a steady job b/c I knew that I was wasting my life there. You gotta say it out loud, think of all the support you will have!
