Mmmmmm. OM Home.

OM Home will be launching their new line of pillows at the NY International Gift Fair (you can find them in booth #1D209). In parts of India, women decorate the floors with geometric patterns and floral designs to celebrate religious or festive occasions called Alpana, Rangoli or Kolam. Inspired as a young girl by watching her mother draw an Alpana design in the sand, artist Oorbee Roy now collaborates with local artisans, creating a line of pillows and table linens in a lovely array of wonderful colors and fabrics celebrating her Indian heritage.

The NY International Gift Fair is held August 11-15. Look for OM Home at the Jacob Javits, Booth 1d209 Handmade Lobby.

These are beautiful!

The designs drawn on floor are called Alpana or Rangoli :-). In Kerala (south of India), these are drawn daily, with more elaborate designs saved for festive occasions. The interesting part is that though now you get rangoli colors to use, traditionally, women used things like wheat, turmeric, colored rice, flowers etc
