Super What?
Sorry...I am not a big football fan. Nachos, layered bean dip, Lazy Boys and loads of beers, don't entice me (Tom Brady? Well, maybe). Nope, none of it does a thing for me. But, it is my favorite Sunday of the year - to go to the Alameda Flea Market! It's pretty empty of competing shoppers, vendors hungry to make a sale. So, it's the super bowl of bargains! See you Sunday, on the flea market field!

it's also world yoga day!! much better than football...
i really want to go to the flea market, but what happens in the rain? i don't mind getting wet, but are there less vendors?
ah, yoga & flea markets - my favorites!
hazel - sometimes there are less vendors, but the Alameda is so huge, there's usually still lots to choose from and great deals!
cool, thanks..i'll probably go for it then. (umbrella in hand)
i heard that it had been cancelled due to the rain and superbowl combo. such a bummer! : (
I just called and they said they open no matter what, however they can't guarantee that vendors won't leave if it's pouring out there. I will probably go and if it's a wash out, I'll head to Ikea!
Awww... the second photo makes me sad -- they tore down the Alameda Point sign a couple of months ago with zero notice or public input. I really miss it -- the entrance to the Point is so blah now.
Sorry for such a bummer of a comment. I'm usually much more upbeat than this, but I'm just so mad about that sign getting torn down. It wasn't in the best shape (as you can even see from your photo), but it was a pretty great little piece of history.
kelly - say it ain't so! i entered this weekend through the confusing new way and didn't go by the old sign. so sad to hear! glad i was able to get a shot of it for posterity!
man, what a bust!
The flea market was so empty, but free when I got there at 7:30am, so that's something.
Victoria, I think I saw you coming out were you wearing a trench coat?
hey ana - yes, it was a bust. i bought one polka-dotted juice glass!
i was wearing a black coat, a gray muffler and a warm fuzzy hat!
I'm sorry to say that it is so. :( Now, when you go through the "main" entrance, it's like, "Oh, yeah... I guess we've entered the Point..." What a let down.
Meanwhile, just to continue my wah-wah-ing, we should all enjoy the fair just as much as we possibly can while it's still there. With all the talk of developing the Point, I don't know how they could possibly keep the fair going. Soon enough, it will be filled with a cookie-cutter housing development (no firm decisions have been made yet, but look to your right on the way out there and you'll see the "future" of Alameda. Sigh.)
