Fashion Friday: SWAP!

Nobody covers the style spectrum like my fashionable friend Leigh Wells. Leigh hosts a bi-annual SWAP and it's just one of the best girls' nights ever. What it involves is basically hauling all the clothing, accessories and shoes that you know you're just never gonna (or shouldn't!) wear again on over to her home with a bunch of other gals doing the same. From there we sort it into sections (skirts, tops, pants...you get the idea). And then we just swap for each others' new, old and unwanted stuff. One girl's cast offs are another girl's treasure!

Before the mayhem begins, Leigh gathers us all in the kitchen for a considerable amount of wine. Trust me, when you're going start grabbing for clothes, the wine is a great un-inhibitor. It's a trusted ally in the world that is SWAP. Because after everyone has a glass and Leigh has laid the ground rules, it's each girl for herself.

You just go on in and grab up what you think looks good. But then, even the trying on portion of the evening is fun, becoming an impromptu fashion show, and the best part is Leigh putting together her version of the worst outfit of the evening. Which strangely, she is able to pull off, with surprising panache! Start your own SWAP...it's all recycled and what doesn't get taken gets donated to the group's favorite charity, and I promise, a good time is had by all.

I did this with a group of girls a couple of weeks ago and it was So. Much. Fun.

I left with a mountain of stuff, and lightened my load of old stuff quite considerably. It was great!

At the end we divided up the unwanted stuff and carted away a bag each to be donated to the local thrift shop - easy peasy.

Highly recommended for a silly night in with your favourite girls!

Me and a big gaggle of girl chums do this twice a year too! It rules!

Memories! The best part of the night is definitely when Leigh manages to turn a handful of hopeless garments into an ensemble Carrie Bradshaw would be proud of.

A group of us did this with kitchen & household stuff - scored a bundt pan and vintage salt & pepper shakers. No worries about not having the right sizes.
