Fashion Friday: Vintage Patterns.

Sometimes it's just darn difficult to find cute vintage frocks that fit a modern day size. I mean those waistlines - jeez! But etsy has tons of old vintage sewing patterns, which I think you could modify to fit the new girlish figure. I found a bunch of cute ones, that might even look cute just framed and displayed. Take a peek at some of the beauties I found...

I love these. Someday I might take up sewing because vintage dresses always seem to be too big around the bust and too small around the waist for me.

how did those women stay so slender?? I've bought a bunch of vintage sewing patterns but still haven't managed to make a single one yet... so many things to do this summer and not enough time!! :)

Look at models today, they are slender too,(not real women) ;) It is funny how fashions always come back around.

Oooh love the style of those dresses! You might want to check out http://www.reddressshoppe.com/, an online boutique that offers vintage reproduction, vintage inspired & retro dresses in sizes that fit! Styles very much like the patterns you found on etsy.

oh I love these... I just picked up a few vintage Simplicity patterns at a garage sale last weekend for 10 cents each!
I love the idea of framing them.

I've been doing a lot of baby clothes using vintage patterns as soon-to-be-mommy friends of mine bemoan the lack of stylish, classic baby/kids clothes(and particularly little boys' clothes in anything other than primary colors or sports themes)...and how much do I love remembering the "maxi" dress - which I wore as a "tween" in the early 70s.

I have to admit I ran straight out to etsy and picked up the Simplicity Misses Dress (number 7597). I'm getting into sewing so I jumped at the chance for a cool new project! Besides being super cute this one seemed so figure friendly!

i remember these patterns from my grandma...she used to make my dresses when i was little. they were adorable. i remember wearing the tissue pattern and being pinned (and not wanting to get pricked by the needles)and fitted.

honey, those aren't 'Maxi' dresses... those were called 'caftans'. I know, cause I sewed 'em and wore 'em.

oooh, I have McCalls 8497 (the camisole dress and sheer layer) and I've actually made it. I wore it to a cocktail party, and whilst I felt appropriately stylish and well dressed, everyone else said I was overdressed! curse disposable fashion and casual attitudes these days.....
