GUEST BLOGGER: Raya from thepaperpony
Hello again! Today I'm continuing my mini-tour of downtown Ventura, CA. We're about to enter my favorite antique/junk shop downtown - Nicholby's. Not to be confused with Nicholby's night club next store. They share a building & name, but are very, very different.
Many of the most treasured, funky pieces in our home are from this place. I just find the most random stuff here & know it has to come home with me. You can also find the odd Herman Miller chair under the piles if you look hard enough (best day of my life).
Nicholby's Antiques • 404 E Main St.
Antquing can take a lot out of you. If you're spent & in need of refreshment head over to Cafe Fiore, a charming Italian bar/restaurant with an old world feel & delicious food.
Cafe Fiore • 66 California St.

I dropped by there on Saturday. There's a great mid century chair, hanging from one of the pipes, for $100. Fantastic !
looks great! must visit if I'm on holiday near there someday!
nice post raya! i love that sweater!
beautiful i love all of it!
I live in New York City now and miss my easy going days of Ventura/Ojai!!!
Great posts!
Ah, Ventura... my hometown. Why did I never take the time to explore Nicholby's before I moved? That cashmere sweater is such a great find!
oh this makes me miss London so much, all the markets and little bric-a-brac shops! Now I'm back in Iceland, life was supposed to be so good here but over the last few weeks everything has come crumbling down!!! Yikes, maybe it's bedtime for me now!!!
thanks for the fun posts, raya! it makes me want to take a trip up the coast. ever since my visit to the area a few years ago, i have always said that ventura is one of the best kept secrets. everyone always thinks to go to santa barbara or malibu (which are beautiful of course), but i love the charm and feel of ventura...
Ah, Ventura! Fiore has the best bread and Italian salsa, and I love browsing through Nicholby's. Have you been to American Home Vintage & Antiques on Oak St? And there's also House 466, which is relatively new. They've both got great shabby chic pieces. I occasionally do posts on my blog about shopping in downtown Ventura...
