Jen-eration!

Sometimes people are just so clever it hurts me. Artist Jennifer Khoshbin has put together this fantastic idea for a show featuring nothing but eleven artists named Jennifer, entitled Jen 11. Anyone else hearing that song, 27 Jennifers, running through their brains right about now? Jen explains that apparently, more than a million of girls were dubbed Jennifer within the span of just fifteen years. From a place of relative obscurity, the name grew on a wave of sudden and unprecedented popularity. Now as an adult, Jen asks the question of whether members of this Jen-eration have unknowingly grown into a common artistic sensibility? Have they become creators of culture in their own particular way?

Jen11 is a traveling exhibition featuring the eleven Jennifers listed above, opening in April at Artstream gallery, UPPERCASE Gallery and the Composition Gallery. Here's just a sampling of some of the amazing work from the Jennifers. You can visit the artists' blog here, and also purchases a copy of the book Jen 11, published by, and available at UPPERCASE.

i remember so many jens in my classes that they had to go by both middle and last name initials.
lots of jens and lots of heathers. indeed a cultural phenomenon worthy of artistic exploration.

I am happily part of the Jen-eration (though not quite as wildly talented as the 11 in this show). Thanks for sharing.

Reminds me of the movie Heathers. I think this is a cool idea. Will check it out for sure.

Yup I'm a Jenn. And I went to art school with two other Jen's! (And there were only about 20 people in the class all up.)

Dang, wish I could have jumped in on the action in time. ;-) I'm another Jen, circa 1975, www.wassonart.com. Hmmm, maybe next time when it's Jen50?!
