Running Away and Joining the Loft Life.

I still have that itch to move into a loft space. Especially after looking at some very tiny apartment spaces over the weekend. Every so often, I head over to LoftLife Magazine a drool a little bit, just for the fun of it. I guess you can call it fun, more like turning green with loft envy! But, I do love the idea of filling up a huge canvas of white space with any furnishings I'd like and creating coziness out of nowhere, without walls and barriers standing in my way. Here's a few favorites I saw over there in LoftLife's Loft Tours section. Oh, be still my beating heart.

I love the idea of loft living. Maybe not the potential noise-carrying capabilities of vast spaces...but all that FREEDOM to move around! What's the dining room one day, could be the guest room the next, and so on, and so on! I'm right there with ya', Miss Victoria!

I'm a San Francisco girl too, and based on the lofts I've seen here, I would not want to live in one. The ones in your photos appear to have more separated spaces/rooms, whereas the ones in SF seem to be one big space (most are newly constructed). I think they're fine for one person, but (thinking down the road...) definitely not for two -- I mean, how can you take a nap if the other person is watching TV, listening to music, or just walking around? Also, in the lofts here it bugs me that there is just one wall of light entering the loft, and the space gets darker the further from them you get. I prefer more windows, more light. Hate to be so negative, but light and nap-ability are huge factors for me.

I love the photo with the wood pile and the bicycle, but all the photos are beautiful enough to make me want to sell the house and move into a nice big loft.

The woodpile gets my vote too! I love old warehouses with high ceilings and think walls that have been converted into live/work space, but agree w/Lynn above that the newly constructed SOMA spaces lack the appeal of older buildings.

i with you, lynn and honeydonthink - i do not care for the fake lofts all over the city (no offense anyone)! i just like the old exposed beams and such.

oh mrs. french - it's not a bad idea! i do love portland. then i'd be girlbymountains, or rivers, or something! :)

Oh, the envy. Those pics are so gorgeous. I remember the exposed brick interior walls with faded billboard paint in the loft of the hot guy from Desperately Seeking Susan. I believe that movie started my as-yet-unfulfilled desire to live in a loft. All that open space!

oh my goodness. i've always held a strong curiosity & fondness for lofts too. were it not for a lack of a yard, these photos would totally convert me for good.

I love lofts as well. In fact, I'll be looking for an apartment in San Francisco later this year...do you know any good resources for converted warehouse lofts in the city? I imagine that they have to be out there, I just don't know where.

anon - so sorry - i don't know where that table comes from, but maybe a knock off at ikea, or cb2?

jamie - i've been looking too, but not finding the real thing - real lofts conversions. but i have seen some over in emeryville, across the bay bridge.
