India in the Bahamas.

Another guest post from Florida-based writer Catherine McCulloch. This one's got me calling the airlines.

I have always had a need for sunshine and light in my surroundings. Growing up in Toronto in the frigid winters I would lie on my bed reading the huge, thick March Vogue, longing to lounge on the beach in ‘resort wear’ and sit in my airy living room looking out the open breezy French doors.

Which leads me to my quiet obsession with India Hicks. Which was sort of a passive admiration until my husband and I got married two years ago on Harbour Island in the Bahamas. I decided upon the location and although I had read that India lived in the Bahamas, I did not make the connection until I researched hotels for our guests. I was tickled to find out that I had indeed chosen the island where she opened a fabulous hotel called The Landing.

Part plantation style, part British colonial - it has an elegance and casualness all at the same time. She has found a perfect mix between flea market finds, fine antiques and contemporary lines. The space is inviting (an 1800’s house), creative, attracts a groovy crowd, all the while being cozy. And the food in the restaurant is so good it was talked about for days afterward.

If you are tired of the rain, snow or clouds – check out The Landing or get her book Island Life for inspiration. It will make you feel light and airy and fresh. It may even inspire you to pull up the rugs, paint everything white and throw open the windows.

What a fabulous place. The sun is shining in the UK (for a change) so I will need to stay put.
Congratulations on your guest blog at d*s by the way. You are doing a great job.
