Bedroom Redux.
So, I know I may hear some flack about this one, but I've flopped my bedroom around. I got a wild hair and moved all the furniture around yesterday. I took off my bedroom door (I never shut it anyhow) to create a whole new wall to work with. I pushed the armoire out into the entry way to make way for my bed. I then moved my bed, nightstand and vintage chair to the 'new' wall. So, by then moving the Ikea sleeper bed across the room, I've created a sitting & reading area in the nook of the stained glass window. I quite like the effect. It's nice to look out at the stained glasss now, rather than be beneath it (especially in earthquake country).
I've always craved a bit more of a 'zen' feeling around my bed - lots of white bedding with punches of color thrown in. I picked up some 400-thread count queen-sized sheets at Ross (yes, dress for less) for $40 for the whole set, including two 'bonus' pillows. I'm telling you, I go nowhere else for sheets. If they are imperfect, I certainly can't tell how.
I also got this cute little pink plaid throw for $5 at Ross, which I folded on my vintage aqua-blue chair for another splash of color next to my nightstand.
I also pulled the hula-hoop girls down to a lower eye level to create a 'headboard' of sorts, and framed a little blue notecard a friend sent me to pick up the aqua blue in the chair. I wonder if this set-up is more feng shui? I must check that out.

i just realized i must have accidentally turned off the comments! sorry about that. slip of the wrist. :)
love the moonbeam clock! i have one too, with the chocolate dial. Do you actually use yours?
hi deerseason - i do use it, every darn M-F. :) i love waking to the the flashing light, but i hate it on the rare occassion that i sleep through the flashing light and that very loud, bloody alarm goes off. errr. :)
I like the new set-up. And I loooove that bench at the end of your bed. I am looking for soemthing like that for the transition space between my living and dining space.
I love what you done. What a wonderfully relaxing room! Great ideas. Now, can you do mine! Ha! Just kidding.
I think it looks fantastic and I think if I were you I'd have a lot of trouble getting out of bed! I only found you recently so do you have a link to how it used to look?
oh my gosh, can we be roomates? ha (even though i'm married), kidding aside, i love doing stuff like that, removing doors, making nooks out of closets, etc. what fun! and beautiful results i might add. and then when it's all done, do you not just sit there and stare at it and feel so happy?
I buy some of my sheets at TJ Maxx. You get really nice stuff for a good deal.
what kind of camera do you use to shoot your home? you always have the nicest lighting in all your shots. very jealous over here.
just love it all! lets be friends. chicago's missallfun approves!
thanks everyone! :)
eric - i use just a 7 megapixel Sony Cybershot. It's light and works great and was not expensive.
annadee - it used to look like this:

i f'in love this room! so light and airy. and what fantastic windows to have!
I liked it before, but I think this is definitely better!!! You should feel more safe and protected in bed without the big windows over your head (in answer to the feng shui issues)+ now you have a beautiful reading corner.
your home is so very fabulous - those windows are gorgeous!!
I'm curious about the wire along the wall of your bed...what is it, how did you attach it to the wall, and what did you use for clips? I have been wanting to do something similiar in my house. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
kadieanne,
it's a curtain wire from west elm that you can order online. it comes with the hardware to attach it to the wall, and the clips roll along the wire. Ikea also has one or two similar to this, and less expensive.
thanks!
