Pink Shrink?

There's a feature in the May issue of Domino that's got my all in a tizzy. Or maybe it's more like a pink fizzy. You know about my obsession with white, well now it would appear that pink has popped up in this preoccupation. Domino features Layla shop owner Alyane Patrick's 'Bombay in Brooklyn' home, which is pretty divine. So, therein lies the rub...do I redecorate again?? I love her white canvas, predominately full of shades of bright pinks, with other bold splashes of color thrown in. I do have the canvas; I've been smart at least about this part. I really love having mostly white furniture, to which I can then add any color I like. I am also quite fortunate that my apartment walls and white shutters cooperate, too.

I think I'm just feeling a bit of post-modern depression and need to add a kick to these rooms. So, all day, I've been looking around, wondering how to make my own Bombay. I've perused my inspiration journals (and even found a photo, above, of of a past bedroom that has inklings of this look), flicker (just search a color and you'll be amazed at all the inspiration that appears), my vintage fabric collections and took a trip to Anthropologie, because nobody mixes it up better. I can't go all the way to India - I'll need an eclectic mix of styles. For I've come to find, the more styles you love and mix together, the more the room is you. So, I'm working on my own version of Alyane's look. Here we go again...but it's so much fun!

Victoria, check out Etsy! I ordered some pillows there the other day-Super, SUPER cute doses of color with the same vintage-y feel of Anthropologie that doesn't get my bank account in a pink fizzy. 20 bucks for two 16 inchers. Nice.

Also, the other day Urban Outfitters was having a sale on their scarf pillows (which aren't too pricey anyway), and their tapestries, comforters, and rugs are pretty sweet too.

I think it's summer time coming around because I went through the same thing about 2 weeks ago. My living room/dining room is lots of whites and wood and chocolate browns.... but the pink bug bit me and suddenly I have hits of pinks in pillows and even and end table. I made the pillow covers myself so when another color bug bites I can easily change them out. Good luck infusing your space with some fun pink!

Hi Victoria, beautiful fabrics in the picture of your previous bedroom. The dog is the best part though! What a cutie pie! :)

I've been seeing (and dreaming of) pink everywhere since I saw Martha's pink cottage in the this month's issue. Plus Blueprint and H&G this month have pinkish covers.

does anyone else have the problem of not getting the newest domino until a week or so after it is on news-stands? its really irritating, because everytime i pass it i just want to gobble it up--BUT, i remind myself...then what will i do with the one that will inevitably arrive in my mailbox that evening?!

Ooh, I loved that spread too! I ripped it out and tacked it up on my wall. I just love all the inspiration pics that you posted as well.

I wish I could see the upper left and right photos larger. They look yummy! I'm a bit of pink whore (but you've seen my place on flickr). The various shades evoke so many positive moods.

Glad you like the pink, guys. I posted my new bedroom just now, which was influenced by my sudden pink & white craze.

yes, tinytwig, i have the same thing happen with domino, but i have noticed it usually arrives the day i break down and actually buy one because i can't wait any longer. i don't know quite why that happens...publishing is a crazy business! but, i love my domino.

how often do you have to wash the white slip cover on the ikea sleeper to keep it looking so white? it always looks so great in your photos and im thinking of getting one for guests.

I did not see a comment button for your "Bedroom Redux" post, but I say FLACK??? what Flack? Anything you can do to get your head away from those large stained glass windows is good for longevity! I think it's all so lovely.

Oh My god I know what you mean. That article got me crazed as well. I actually went out looking for a caned day bed today to use as a couch like she did in her living room. Then I could throw the fuscia thai roll over it? oh the options! lovely posts and lovely room re-do!

It's definitely a pretty, feminine look. And you can find a similar day bed at Urban Outfitters!!

jill - hi, i wash the cordoroy slip cover about ever 3 months or so. I'm actually surprised at how clean it stays. it's too big for my washer though, so I take it to the 'fluff & fold' cleaners and it comes out great.

I've been equally obsessed with that feature - I keep reading it over & over!
