My Moment of Zen.

The summer is upon us, if you count the fog that rolls into San Francisco this time of year. As I write this I have a fire going and the fog horn is wailing in the background, a sound I really love. But, regardless, when we had a glimpse of some hot weather last week, I got in the green mood. So I went over to my local nursery, Flowercraft and loaded up one of their trusty red wagons full of new plants, herbs and flowers. I love those red wagons.

Flowercraft even has a section way in the back for 50% off what are supposedly lesser quality plants. Not so, in my experience, a little soil, water and they are good to grow! This season, I've even planted a kitchen herb garden, which smells quite sweet.

It's one of my zen things to do, replant the garden, and sitting here on my sofa looking out at my wee terrace, it makes me pretty happy. It's the little things sometimes, ya know? I hope y'all have a lovely nursery nearby and a little patch of sunshine to make green.

It is so much about "the little things". For the first time in my life I really get this and I'm so glad that I do. Thanks for sharing your garden with us. I do have a little patch of sunshine shining down on my tomatoes that I am growing in pots ~ here in the middle of the city :)

A few of my favorite things... gardening and dogs. Great photographs, they're happy pics.

Your plants look so lovely. Thanks for this - you've made me feel less guilty for calling in sick to work today (I do have a headache ;)). Now I'm going to go get more work done on my backyard.

I never knew how much I love being outdoors and working with dirt and plants until I bought my house and got to work on our little garden out in front. It's only about 8x10', but it's grand. I love sitting on the porch with the dog and looking at all the plants that have grown from tiny to huge, with the Hudson River off in the distance. It's my favorite thing, really.

Yes...more dogs please:) So sweet!

And you've made me finally stop putting off repotting my orchids. Very inspiring.

This looks great. I've got a question though, and I am sure everyone else knows the answer already but I don't and need to ask.... when you replant, what do you do with the old dirt & plants? Toss them? Or something else?

I just moved into my first "big girl" place (read: apartment that is not a studio but has walls, doors, space defined for all life's essential activities). The best part: the little deck I have up on the third floor. Nothing makes me happier than standing on my porch with coffee/beer ... sigh. Wish I were there now.
