Yard Sale Heaven.

Last Saturday was Bernal Heights' 14th Annual Community Yard Sale. So, knowing me as you might, I was in freakin' heaven! Bernal is a tiny neighborhood on the hillside above the Mission, with beautiful views of the entire city. In the last few years, it's become a place for first-time home buyers to stake their claim in San Francisco. Prices have risen, but to my visiting eye, nothing has changed about Bernal Heights' neighborhood charm and friendliness.

The streets up there are quaint, tiny and meandering and were hosting three or four yards sales per block! People served lemonade and there was a popcorn 'boy', and everyone seemed to know each other and greet their neighbors like they were truly happy to share the day together. I just loved the whole vibe of it and it didn't hurt that it was a gloriously sunny day. Some people even opened up their homes. My friend Eszter and I met a resident named Nathalie (who turns out to be a great friend of artist Lisa Congdon!). She let us into her home and let me snap away a 'mini tour' of her cute apartment, which used to be the Wool Street Grocery. Take a look at her fun, creative place!

I also scored some great finds - a vintage Singer sewing machine, this cool long wood bench for my entryway (from a very cute guy named Pablo), a pink & black ceramic dish, a funky green little dish that I'm going to plant succulents in, a cute clothespin bag (I'll do something with it!) and these amazing flip flops! It was a great day, had by all.

You cheeky monkey. Did you warn us about this event? I was out of town so you may have. Is it annual or what?

I didn't know - I swear! I thought it was ONE yard sale! I got up there and called Eszter and said "get up here, girl!". I think I was there at least three hours!

Next time I'll warn ya. :)

Ooh, I wish I could have gone too. So does this mean you have to get rid of 6 things now? ;)
