Amsterdam Bound!

My office is unexpectedly sending me to Amsterdam tonight! I will be arriving on Tuesday around 1pm and have one small errand to run and then I'm free to explore. If anyone has any suggestions, or would like to meet up, please drop me an email. I'll be trying to blog from there, too! Yipeeee!

I highly recommend walking in the "Vondelpark", taking a boat tour on the "grachten", visiting the "Rijksmuseum",... Just walk around in the city, the "Jordaan" neigborhood is really nice.

Wow, that is so great! Amsterdam is my favourite city in the world, you are going to love it I'm sure!

Irene already linked to all the tips I got when I was going there in August, and all I can say is that you should walk around in the jordaan area, and especially in the Nine Streets. I found a lovely little shop there, I believe it's called The Gallery Shop, you should check it out!

Have a wonderful time, I'm so jealous!

Yeah, they asked me to go but I said "No, let Victoria take this one." Aren't I the nicest person in the world? I wish!

Amsterdam is okay if you like great architecture, design, food, Europe, travel. Me? Oh, this trailer is heaven to me!

You will have a BLAST, Victoria! And I think the timing is great for you.

Happy travels!

Amsterdam is such a lovely city! Someone has already mentioned it but grab your camera and spend time in Joordan area, it's simply perfect! And if you are feeling adventurous, rent a bike and join the masses on two wheels...it's so fun! You might want to see if the open air book market is open this time of year...it's the best "flea" market a book lover could ask for!!!

Apartment Therapy recently featured an apartment located in the Begijnhof, one of my favorite spots in Amsterdam, it's definitely worth seeking out. The Van Gogh museum is one of my favorite in the world, and the Anne Frank house is a haunting place to visit. The museumboot is a good way to visit both of the above. The last time I went I think you could get a ticket for the boat ride and 3 museums for a reasonable price.

Don't forget to have some frites (speciaal are my faves!), gouda kaas, stroopwafels and gevulde koeken are some bakery favorites of mine as well.

Be sure to check out Bloesem's (Irene's) Weekend Read: http://bloesem.blogs.com/wr_amsterdam/. Proef looks awesome: http://www.proefamsterdam.nl/. Struck GOLD at the flea market too- it was like digging for treasure.

ooooh I am über jealous! i love Amsterdam. I had a great time checking out some live jazz at this tiny club called Casablanca (google). Right around the corner from there, there is a café that is all done in mosaic ... the bathrooms are the coolest.

also be sure to visit Droog Design
http://www.droogdesign.nl/

and this bookstore
http://www.nijhoflee.nl/

If you can get in to KesselsKramer advertising agency for a tour ... do it! they have THE coolest office space ever (in an old church).

have fun!

thanks everyone for these great suggestions!! i am headed over to jordaan and the nine streets and to visit a few museums too. i'm going to check out all these great links and suggestions.

and for those of you asking, my advertising job basically sent me here as a courier to deliver a TV commercial tape that was ubër late. not my normal job (i'm the art buyer), but i jumped at the chance! :)

it's just the diversion i need from my quiet house right now. i'll keep you posted on my adventures.

Hartenkaas {best sandwiches in town}, foam {photography museum}, festina lente {lovely cafe + great coffee}, Athenaeum {great bookstore located at Spui #14-16}, Cortina Papier {nice store selling... well, everything made of paper}, De Bolhoed {vegetarian restaurant - excellent food}, Boekie Woekie {small bookstore carrying limited editions of artist books/handmade books/zines et cetera - only cash, no creditcards accepted}...

+ wandering through the Jordaan area is always nice {my boyfriend's house is on the Lauriergracht, the lucky bastard}.

Did you spot some space invaders while wandering through the area?

cheers from... yes. Amsterdam!
