Colonel Mustard In the Parlor.

I've gone and done it again. A little living room redux. I can't help it, and frankly I don't want to. I'm a little like Amy Winehouse...ain't gonna go to rehab, I say, no, no, no. Only this is slightly less dangerous - I just refuse to rehabilitate my re-decorating habit. I know I'm more than a casual user, but I just gotta do it now and then. The crazy euphoria I get from this just feels too good.

I'm calling this new incarnation, Colonel Mustard in the Parlor, with the Saarinen! I scooped up this fun little ochre-colored, velvet love seat on craigslist for a mere $85. It's quite the comfy spot to curl up, read and relax, right in front of the fireplace. Well, at least, for now.

I love the dining area tucked into the bay window. Does your fireplace work?

I definitely agree, the dining room table in the bay window is genius! And working it so you can have three distinct areas in one living room? Pure SFGirlByBay.

Oh, I love love love that little sofa! And it looks so comfortable. What a great find for little money. And do I spot the VT Wonen there?(a dutch magazine on interior) I know some people who are in that edition, they're the big family living together in the house with the pink walls...

style and comfort- got it all!

it's fun to find pieces, it's just not fun carting them home. that's the only not-fun part.

Love the new couch! I was wondering how you search on Craiglist. do you have any secrets to finding treasures?

I'm sure you've answered this before but where does the cute pink rug come from? Your place looks amazing!

thank you - i'm so glad you like it! you enablers, you! :)

i wasn't sure about the dining table there, but it's nice at night, and is a more functional use of the space.

erinn - yep, i'm lucky the fireplace works and i lite it often!

nina - yes, i got that issue of VT Wonen when I was in amsterdam and it's an amazing magazine - i love your friends' home!! i'm going to shoot some pages from the magazine and share them on the blog - i see lots of the color gray in our future!

j - i found some great local movers in SF who will pick up and deliver your CL finds. I am happy to give anyone the number if you'd like it.

vintage society - i search using keywords for sure - for this i had searched using variations of: vintage, loveseat, lounge, chaise, etc.

i always check the box so that i see posts with pictures only, and start with SF proper. then expand out to the bay area. look at yard sale posts, too, because they often post a picture of what they are selling beforehand, so you can sometimes grab those items quickly. it takes some time, but it's worth it if you find what you like for a great price! and that's a great feeling!

Great sofa Victoria. I think this is the first time I realized you had a fireplace. And I'm also beginning to see just how large this room must be because you have 3 seating areas in there now and still have PLENTY of space to move around. Great job and screw rehab honey, this addiction is actually GOOD for your health!

I just wanted to pop in and say that I LOVE everything about your style, home, and taste in general. It's so fresh and calm with just the right amount of color mixed in!

Thanks for being an inspiration,

Looks Beautiful! I love how you pile up the books along the wall. I do that too because I can't get as many bookcases as I want (I move around too much to have many pieces of furniture!) And what an amazing coolection(typo but I'm keeping it) of art on the walls! *envy*

I think re-arranging furniture or decor-therapy is great! It changes and refreshes the energy flow in your room aka Fengshui. And it's your place, you can do whatever you want......cheers!

LADIES & GENTLEMEN! I'd like to announce that I am officially jealous!

Are you kidding me with how great your place is, Victoria?!

Sssso, amazing!

oh you crazy kids! thank you!

anon - the chairs were also a craigslist find - vintage, both for $150 and a flokati rug thrown in.

holly - yep the fireplace is copper-faced. i think someone in the seventies did it. i was wondering if all my little 'rooms within the room' was weird, but it's just fun to have little vignettes everywhere.

uncle beefy - you calm down, now. :)

victoria, re: the chairs found on craigslist. did you recover them or were they already in that nice white? what is the texture of the white fabric? my grandmother gave me 2 chairs with a similar frame, i'm thinking of having them recovered. i love yours.

I adore your new redo! The mustard love seat is perfect! I like farmer's table by the window much better. I also adore the piles of books on the floor. Great job.

Don't worry - you are not alone with this affliction. Many of us have the rearranging disease!

This is my favorite yet...you really out did yourself.

I had a friend who held lots of dinner parties in a small 1 bdrm in SF and I thought her beautiful (paris-flea-mkt) apartment was the most ingeniously gracious and welcoming ever, but yours is its equal.

She also had her dining table in the bay window and it could fit 6 cozily and inspired many long, hilarious, deep conversations over coffee & desert.

Glad you keep mixing it up. I'm inspired by your decor
innovations. -Lori

your place look so cozy, but still clean and fun - great job! I'm looking for a yummy, fluffy (affordable) white carpet like the one in your photo - where did you find yours?

sfgirlbybay said...

thanks again everyone!

anon - the magazine holder is from the Container Store, but a few years old.

jo - yep!! that's your chair. thank you, thank you! i have coop, tucked away somewhere special (my secret little shrine!).

amber - i got the flokati rug on craigslist with the two white chairs - all for $150. search 'flokati' on CL and ebay. there's tons on ebay.

Love everything about your room. Love, love, love.

Also love the mini Saarinen table. I must be living under a rock because I think I have never seen it in that size before. I love that the Saarinen tables can fit into any style of room.
