Sunset Keeps it Green.

Jess Chamberlain, the Home & Design writer at Sunset Magazine, wrote to share her post on their blog, Home With Sunset with me on Friday and I just about fell over. I knew my appearance in the March issue of Sunset Magazine was coming up, but apparently it will be on newsstands as early as next week! On Friday, she gave Sunset blog readers a sneak peek of the feature.

The March issue is their Green issue, and I'm being featured for my love of trash picking furniture from curb sides! Well, not just that, but my love of flea market finds does, apparently, count as being green. Furniture and accessories get recycled, too! Thanks so much Jess - I can't wait to see the real issue of Sunset magazine next week. Wahoo!

Thanks for sharing and for the reminder - I don't get Sunset but will have to pick it up! How exciting, congrats! And I just love your pink hallway, what a perfect shade.

I love that every time I see photos of your home, I wonder "ooh, where is this fabulous new place?" and then realize that it is indeed, yours. You truly have a talent for keeping it fresh - I am continually inspired by you to re-arrange and re-display (much to my husband's chagrin!).

Beautiful as always!!!!

how exciting! i've recently discovered your blog and think your home is absolutely beautiful. would you mind telling me if the color of that dresser is a blue gray, or just a gray? i am looking for the blue/gray to paint some of the pieces in my home, but have yet to find the right one. i remember reading the post about this dresser, but can't remember what month it is in! thanks :)

thanks you guys! i'm very excited about it.

anon - the pink paint is actually of my own creation. i got a pink paint that was horrid, so i added my own acrylic paints until i got a color i liked!

soups - the gray-blue dresser is painted with Ace Royal Touch 'Walnut Hill'. I think you can find it at any Ace Hardware.

Have you ever had any of your knickknacks fall into your toilet? You have alot of stuff on your lid there!!

sfgirlbybay said...

thanks abbey! yep, i'm a bed blogger! busted! although, i recently bought a new desktop iMac, so I'm getting better. :)

sally - that's true. it's the conundrum - to decorate the toilet lid, or just ignore it ;)

i don't think anything has ever fallen in, though! :)

So excited to see you featured over there! One of my favorite things about you (and your blog) is your uncanny ability to scout-out treasures, and give them fabulous makeovers in the form of a little TLC.

AWESOME! You are such a celeb!!!
Now I have to find Sunset magazine and buy it because I can't wait to see you in print. Congratulations and you look so adorable laying on that bed, I love that picture of you. And I'm happy to hear you have an iMac for your desktop now, you'll never go back once you have one of these big bad mamas.

That is just great! As I live in Sweden, I can't get a hold of Sunset - I just love seeing those pics online! Your home is so beautiful, personal and - I have come to realize through the Sunset blog - environmentally friendly!

"Sunset" is just the tops! Congratulations. AND I love that they count 2nd hand shopping as being green (I always thought it was) and are writing about it. I'll have to get my mom (on the west coast) to pick it up (as I am in the south).

so excited for you! quick question: is the dresser 'walnut hill' or 'shady cove'? I recall your original post having the word 'cove' in it, and when I went to my ACE store today to pick up chips-- including walnut hill-- for some projects, I saw that 'shady cove' is just above 'walnut hill.' the color on your dresser is gorgeous and would like the same one on my bookcase, so just want to be sure. thanks for inspiring!

sfgirlbybay said...

Thank you all so, so much! I haven't been able to find a copy yet (perhaps I should subscribe!!), but it should be out this week.

anon - it's a bit of a mystery. the can says 'walnut hill' - i took the chip in and compared and i think it just dries closer to shady cove, but a little bit darker. it's somewhere in the middle, really! go with the Walnut Hill since that's on the can.

My issue arrived this weekend - great feature! And all that white in your place is so inspirational - I'm moving next weekend to a tiny apartment, and was planning to go with a mostly-white scheme to keep things looking as spacious as possible.

sfgirlbybay said...

thanks chez shoes!! i picked up a couple copies, too! I'm glad you found some inspiration. :)

another question: i recently painted a nightstand using a benjamin moore paint but it hasn't turned out the way i thought it would. i used a semi-gloss since it is supposed to be durable, but two months after the painting and drying, the paint is still slightly sticky (as in, when i put stuff down on the table, they will stick to it a little bit) and it scratches very easily. do you have any tips for making furniture non-sticky?

sfgirlbybay said...

thanks again everyone!

soups - you know, i'm pretty awful at painting furniture myself and always rely on my hardware guy to recommend the right paint. i have sticky problems, too! when i painted the bathroom dresser, that worked out well, so i will look at that can and checkout what it is. if you email me on the link on the top right, i can let you know. thanks!
