Oops, I Did It Again.
All of a sudden yesterday, I got super bored, and starting getting anxious about how the apartment looked...couldn't sit still, felt pretty sure, and then, I knew it definitely was coming. Yeah, I rearranged the furniture and artwork. Again. I know, big whoops! What else is new, right? I do this so often they should name a mental illness for it. Like OCD, only maybe we call it VBA (Victoria's Bored Again). Whatever you want to call it, I just get the itch to change things up, and find change much more interesting than perfection. And the cool thing is, I didn't spend a dime...I just moved the rooms around. Cheap, easy, and, oh yeah, exercise.
It's still not perfect - I see flaws everywhere, but it gives me something to work on, a new challenge, and for me, that's what's just amazingly fun. I see the dining room area lacking somehow, and need a little extra something there, but it will come to me, and then I'll get all excited and inspired and feel wondrous. It's the little things, people...always the little things. Those small details that draw you in and make a room shine. But here's a look at the new rooms, as of, let's say around 9:00pm Wednesday, June 11. You never know what could happen by, perhaps 9:00am tomorrow morning, if I don't sleep well tonight!
This Hatch Show Print is new. The lovely Ms. Niland gave it to me as a gift after our interview a few weeks ago. Y'all don't know how I feel about Johnny Cash (that would be quite strongly positive), so you can't know how much this rocks for me! And it's from Hatch Show Print!! Thank you Kelly, so much!
as well as some smaller prints from Annie's amazing collection.

Hello Victoria, I looks very nice... as usual!
Have a nice day !
What a fabulous place you have! I am new to your blog, but like what I checked out yesterday so much that I have already linked you from mine. Very inspirational. Thanks for that! : )

i LOVE that you rearrange so often. as a someone with the same affliction i know how hard it can be to sit still once you get the itch to start moving furniture! looks great, as usual.
your place is always so beautiful! i just love it. and every time i see your bar stools i swear i get butterflies in my stomach - they are so fantastic! -caitlin
Your place is so cute! If you ever need a roommate let me know [joke]. :D
You are so gooodddd!!!
Hey Victoria, There is a word for it! See here:

By the way, Marcel is a huge Johnny Cash fan. Sometime I'll tell you a little story from when he was 4 years-old. It involves a cross country drive to Salt Lake City.
When my kids are grown and my husband is retired I'm going to have a house that is as cute as yours! My darn messy family is always dirtying the place up. LOL But thanks for the great inspiration. I've been wanting to do something new in my bedroom. I think just shifting things around might be the spruce up it needs.
I have serious domicile envy, I love all the white mid-century and Thonet chairs. My daughter draws all over her white mini-Panton chair and I can't wait for the day I can have some grown-up versions without the worry of destruction by crayon. My favorite part of any profile of private homes, whether on blogs or in shelter mags, is the shots of peoples book shelves. I love to see what people read, or what people want you to think they read. Can you post shots of your books head on so we can see what you like to read and display. Thanks!! By the way love to check out your weekend shots every Monday, they're great!
OMG Victoria,
I have never seen your barstools before!! Where did you find? (I'm sure they are vintage, but at least I'll have a search term to look for!) I am so jealous - what a beautiful space!
Rearranging everything is less expensive than shopping when you get bored..it looks amazing, as always.
We are kindred spirits- I love rearranging- I now charge others for my rearranging impulses- its called house staging! I definitely have the disease, and probably in a more advanced state than you. One entire year, I repainted rooms every time my husband travelled on business, (last year he travelled 80,000 miles- so thats a lot of paint). He was left only speechless once- my crayon orange foyer is still intact!
Still love it, and keep on rearranging- life is too short!
I'm so glad you put the dining room back over there! That's always where I liked it. Selfish, given it's not my own house, but true. :)
Wow--I love your totally Mary Tyler Moore kitchen! Now I can see how she lives on through YOU, too! XOK
thanks you guys!
sydney ann - will do! ;)
sylvie -i like that name! and i always new marcel had good taste!
yes - the barstools are vintage and i reupholstered them and painted them white ($50 for both!)
tracey - that is a lot of paint - are the rooms getting smaller? ;)
kelly - LOL! yes, i twirl my knit cap around in the kitchen a lot! i'll have you over for wine and show you! xx
There should be NO shame in continuous furniture and art rearranging. It's the spice of life!
Allow me to throw out a suggestion for what this condition should be called. I like to call it "Hampstering" like what a hampster does in it's own home.
Pretty...I could spend a good amount of time browsing around looking at all of your pretty, interesting things. Thanks for sharing .. it is always fun to see inside someone's home especially someone with style!
Trina
where did you get your furnitures from? they beautiful. gives it a bit of a vintage/modern flare to the room.
Your apt. arrangements completely calm me down...love all the white. If I got rid of my husband, I could indulge in my white furnishing dreams! ;)
Oh I have the same disease.. I move my furniture all the time. My boyfriend and I are considering moving in together and this is an issue he brought up! Help! Can I get furniture moving syndrom meds?
oooh, i was so proud of myself when i held off on the move-everything-urge for 2 weeks! i mostly tried to stay out of the house and thought it was a huge advance in my health. but then i dove in and love how my new furniture arrangements are shaping up. only problem is that i never completely finish. but your photos are inspiring me to head straight home and finish up!

I think you'll find they DO have a name for it - it's called "she's got worms".
Bit gross, right?
How about "ants in your pants"?
Love the new look. I like that it is an always changing space for you. I am sure you look back from when you moved in to now and are amazed at how different it has become, how different you have become. Is that the same dining table that has been in the family. It looks differentm darker than I remember.
i love it when you move things around and show us. see, interior design is your art, and like an artist, you were hit with an inspiration...to NOT move stuff around and "repaint" would be criminal. keep it moving!
The hatch show print pleases this Nashvillian very much
Beautiful, beautiful blog too. Will check out Bloomers as well.
you guys are cracking me up with the husband and boyfriend issues...my male friends don't seem to mind (or they are just being too kind to say anything)...
la.mi - the furniture is from all over: vintage from flea markets & craigslist.com; the sofa is from room & board; the eames rocker from velocity art & design; the long narrow bookcase is from ikea (the lack - i turned it on it's side and added wheels); the knoll dining chairs and the white side chairs are from craigslist; the small saarinen side table is from DWR; the desk is from west elm...how that for now? :)
You know, I was one looking in my google stats and found a keyword search for my blog that sid 'compulsive furniture rearrangers'... so I think it's safe to say hat you're not on your own with this one!
The apartment looks gorgeous (as always) - it seems so full of light.... *sigh*

Love your apartment, you are so lucky to have all that space!
i see no flaws! your apartment looks terrific every way you rearrange it :) my husband says that i also have a problem with furniture rearrangement, but how do you kick a habbit you have had since you were 8 years old? i love change!
Love love love your blog. Your taste is impeccable and the blog gives me a great source of inspiration for my (not-so-frequent) forays into home-deco. Love your style; keep up the fabulous work!
I love your place - no matter how you rearrange it. It always looks perfectly cheery and cozy at the same time!
Ohmygosh Victoria!
every time you rearrange it's better and fresher than before.
I honestly don't know how you do it

I know exactly how you feel and it is SO nice to know that I am not alone. I have been suffering from this for as long as I can remember. When I was young I used to actually draw "blueprints" of how I was planning on rearranging my room and show it to my mom for approval. Did I just take this affliction one step further? I think I did. :D Anyway you have an awesome living space and you have done a great job with it. Love your style.
Fantastic Space to call Home!
I for one, am a huge fan of each and every one of your VBA attacks! Well done! Just lovely as always.
You really shouldn't feel bad...I do it constantly! It drives my husband nuts. I tell him I have Decorating ADD! Just when I think I'm liking how the place is looking I get bored with it and have to change it! It may be an illness, but then I'm sick too!
Oh abra.. I'm an interior designer and I draw up my own apartment in autocad and play around with it at home. Sometimes I move my virtual furniture instead of the real thing in an effort to calm my need to move things without actually moving them. As a child, I drew floorplans as well. I guess I was literally born to do my job!
I think it is a San Francisco thing...I used to rearrange my furniture all the time when I lived there. :)
Great apartment!
oooooooh I LOVE IT!!! and I definately understand about the rearranging your furniture illness!! By the way .. I have been looking for a shag rug..a cheap shag rug that looke like the one you have any suggestions..? I know there are lots on the market but the budget is tight. any suggestions...?
Lovely! I have the same Johnny Cash poster and am also a big fan!
A question: Do you have plaster walls? If so, how do you hang art so frequently without marring them? I'm imagining that you might be the expert!
your home is so beautiful!
Hi Victoria,
You've got great stuff, no wonder you love rearranging it so much! It looks good everywhere. I deeply covet the barstools and your dinner sideboard.
Yours was the best post on apartment therapy this week!
Thank you!!!!

where's the yellow loveseat?
I do this shuffle, too. your place looks great.
mmm...I don't see any green plants... it always brings something furniture doesn't...
great apartment!!
sigh. I wish I could be your roommate.
You have such a great place.
If wish I could indulge my urge to rearrange! I used to do it quite often and paint (like the woman who's husband flies 80K mi). No more . . . allas I have a mini me (11 m/o) who just doesn't get it. I still have my white slipcovered sofa and loveseat though! Hah, take that! Although much to my dismay, brightly colored plastic things are starting to takeover. Wah, wah, wah.
I have that exact same furniture-rearranging disease!
I recently had a trip to San Francisco that was made all the more wonderful by visiting places you write about. Thanks so much!
I'm loving it...so fresh....so relaxing. It looks great!!
