I grew up in sunny Southern California, and although I now happily find my home to be in Northern California, I really love that mid-century modern feel that comes along quite often with So Cal living. I rounded up some imagery I thought epitomized that atomic era, L.A. chic.
I love these black butterfly chairs, and sisal just looks so fresh and beachy.
A white leather sofa with tufted cushions is so cocktail party cool.
Yummy, mid-century, modern pieces!
Lots of sunny California light streaming in through big windows.
Even the chairs look like art.
Collections of artwork clustered in groups look so hip, and so great together.

These pics are so inspirational this morning. We just inherited some great mid-century modern pieces, so we're definitely heading in this direction.
Love the retro, glam look of Southern California living. You captured it in these pictures.
Really my style! Though I don't even live close to California... ;)
I am NY born and Colorado raised but CA has always been a major inspiration for me...thanks for these fun ideas, I think we all like CA design because it's so bright and airy and mostly because it's so daring and creative (but always comfortable!!) thanks for sharing these great photos...I am inspired.
Mmmm...I've never lived in SoCal and yet always drawn to the look. Is is the look or the light? Who knows, who cares? It always makes me stylishly happy to see!
Really love that first pic! Warm but refreshing! :)
Who, again, makes that glass lamp in the photo second from the top?
I'm glad y'all like the post! :)
Alex - I think it is West Elm, or possibly CB2.
Nice collection, yo! I'm diggin' that three-legged coffee table fourth pic from the bottom.
This may seem like an odd question - but do you know the owner of the 4 framed wedding photographs above the white sofa? I have seen pictures of that wedding dress in the recent past, and I am fascinated by it! I'm hoping to somehow find more images of it in greater detail...
claire - i grabbed that image from a room&board catalog! :)
Furniture IS art.
Do you know where I could find some of those butterfly chairs? I had some from Urban Outfitters when I was in college circa 1988 and I tried to find some for a screened porch recently but could not find them. Any ideas? Thanks, Mimi
Lora - you are right!
Anon - I think Pottery Barn Teen sells them, and this site has them, along with lots of solid canvas colors to choose from:

Southern California is my favourite style, looove it so much.
I do not like transplanted styles so my house would have a south American style, but the houses inspired me most are like the one you posted here.
