Passage to India.
You may have noticed of late, my new found affection for all things Indian. I am loving the look, exotic colors and patterns of a stylish, new and modern India. I picked up a copy of Australia's Vogue Living this month, and much of the magazine's pages are devoted to all things from India.
I also got two new wonderful books this week from independent publisher Chronicle Books, India Color, Spirit, Tradition & Style, and Made in India. India Color captures the bright hues and beautiful patterns of India, offering a virtual journey, with a plethora of photos of furniture, textiles, jewelry, clothing, and architecture, along with marketplaces and artists.
Made in India is fun little book, focusing on a resurgence of Indian pop culture, with an inspiring collection of vintage Indian design. There are hundreds of images packed into this compact book including folk art and religious iconography, book and matchbox covers, Raj-era postcards, household product packaging and ads, even Bollywood posters.

Loved this post!
I'm an American but have been living in India for the past 6 months. I wasn't prepared for the beauty of the rich colors you see every where here. I can't wait to get home and incorporate some of the design elements into my home.
i love idian stuff (maybe b/c i'm of indian heritage :) but i hate it when its so overdone - i love it when its kind of paired down - modern ethnic chic i guess. and like jamie says - the colors are gorgeous and vibrant and kind of happy - i mean all that orange and pink - you can't help but be cheery. thanks for this post!
I love every thing Indian, I dream about traveling there, but meantime read An Indian Summer blog.
Victoria what are the measures of your design journals,I am starting mine soon,I have an eclectic taste and need to put in order what I want, and I am so stacked that I need a tutorial for a design journal, these days I am the stupid blogger.
Lucky - I agree. I absolutely love it, but when it's overdone, it takes away from the beauty. The colors are stunning!
I agree, too. Just subtle bits of prints, with lots of white (you know me!!).
karina - I use black sketch books for my inspiration journals - you can find them here:

Thanks,There are similar, here in Buenos Aires, but more expensive,I can not understand,Grrrrrr!!!
Just gorgeous. I think my two favorite magazines are Vogue Living from Oz and Living Etc.
I am completely addicted to Indian textiles, and have been for quite some time. I always beg friends to bring me saris when they travel. My favorite one hangs above my bed.
Also, you might want to check out Unravel Desire. I've been yearning after it for a year but haven't had the spare cash to pick it up.
I am SO with you on the India front, Miss Victoria! Having worked in an Asian antiques store some years back, I'd love all the amazing colors and patterns that I got to peruse on a daily basis. Such a visual feast!
ps- kimberly...you can find some fantastic Indian textiles in Vancouver, B.C.! Sorry I can't think of any one store in particular to point you toward, but some amazing selections there. Just in case that helps. :)
Do you know which issue this is? the vogue living website doesn't look like the same issue. Is it october/ nov? thanks, joan
Uncle Beefy: I actually live in Silicon Valley, so I can probably find some here - I just need to know where to look. And there's something nice knowing your souvenir was hand picked by a friend. I usually hand them money and tell them to look for something they think I'd like. It turns out fun, and they get to shop with my money :)
joan - i think this is a quarterly, it says it's Vol. 42, No. 4 - sorry it doesn't say whether it's spring, summer etc.
i'm officially on inspiration overload because i too am loving all things relating to the colors and culture of india. i must figure out a way to get my hands on the aussie vogue living every month. it's just fantastic.
lovely post, yummy books - hurray for pink and orange!
I have got that australian Vogue Living at home, and thought the photo about the indian theme were so inspiring... I am planning to frame them and put them in my rather small office! thanks for sharing :)
