Desperately Seeking Bench!
I am desperately seeking a white bench like this one you see above, so I figured I'd bring it to you the readers and expand my search! I am in the process of redecorating the bedroom, and have installed a vintage white fireplace mantel and a white Flokati area rug, and now I seek a bench something like this to place in from of the mantel. If anyone has any ideas for me, I'm open to your interpretations of something along these mid-century, vintage modern lines. Thanks!

Why not just find the legs and make the bench? Chances are whatever you'd find, would have to be upholstered anyway. I just saw these exact legs on a footstool in the trash yesterday while on a bikeride.
I have a slat bench I found at the Salvation Army, you could just top something similar with a cushion. easy peasy.
That's actually a great idea, Lindsay! I thought about that a while back for something else I was looking for, but this might be much simpler to achieve. Thanks!
speaking of benches, have you had the pleasure of visiting the bench monday flickr pool? it's amazing: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1040132@N20/pool/
I realize what I'm recommending is technically a coffee table, but it might work for your needs. Check out the Platform Coffee Table from CB2. It definitely has a mid-century vibe. Although, it might have too much wood/not enough white for what you're looking for. In any event, it's a gorgeous piece of furniture! :D
Ha! Jessica - I'm in that pool!

Capree - that is a nice coffee table! Thanks for sharing!
Aw sweet! Love those jammies!
Sorry that I don't have any suggestions about a bench, but I had to chime in and say that the rug is gorgeous, and exactly what I've been wanting for my own home. I can never seem to find rugs with pink instead of burgundy or other dark colors. Good luck on your bench search!
Hello. Ikea has in fact just released a bench that looks a bit like what you're looking for. It's got wooden legs (albeit more than your example has) and a white leather cushion. One end of it folds up - but then I guess you needn't do that. It's a lot less vintage 50s - but maybe just worth a look: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40148486
Cheers,
Heike
Check this one out from Urban Outfitters - looks very similar: http://tinyurl.com/cxluga
Thanks everyone! See, I knew you'd have some good suggestions!
a good bench is hard to find- seriously!
if i see anything down here, i'll send it your way!
I have to see what that mantle looks like installed. I've been thinking about doing something similar in my master bedroom.
my first thought was in line with lindsay--make it! home depot carries those legs and the anchors to attach them to the wood. i made a round ottoman this way and it was rather easy. good luck!
oh..i know. i've been wanting something like that for a long time:

this exact bench was available in the LA area just a couple of months ago! bummer. i kept seeing it on craigslist, and just didn't have a home for it. a company called Modern Search and Design was selling it.

maybe you could contact some midcentury dealers and let them know what you're looking for.
Victoria, I don't have any suggestions about the bench but I saw your apartment in the Do It Yourself mag I purchased yesterday. It looks great!!!
cvjn - that's the one!
debra - i've been trying to get my hands on a copy! i heard the magazine had come out, but can't find it here, yet. if you can get me a copy, i'd happily pay for it and postage!
ebay
this ottoman comes up at least monthly and is frequently attributed to milo baughman.
check out #310134441390 for something similar if you reupholster.
and for something more midcentury and under appreciated, check out the cleo baldon #220392818783, pricier but collectible.

those mid-century coffee tables are ubiquitous on craigslist - just pad and upholster the top! You'd have to fake-tuft, perhaps, and welt the edges, top and bottom, to give it that box cushion look. oooh! now I'm getting all hot and bothered about doing one for myself.
I'd be happy to get you a copy. Just e-mail me your address. Debra I live in San Jose. I bought it at Barnes and Noble.
Oh - thanks Debra. I was going to check B&N and now I will. Thanks, though!
I will keep my eye out for you! It's not easy to find mid century benches in good condition... The slat bench idea is great though, there are tons of those around!
V-- what mag is your apt featured in? (How super!!!)
Thx!
It's a new quarterly magazine called DIY. I still haven't found one - my Barnes & Noble was out, so I've yet to see it! :)
I often see benches like this on Overstock.com. They have $2.99 shipping.
did you see the bench with white cushion on this?
Shilo - that bench is exactly what I'm looking for!
