Sunday Soup Supper.
I wanted to let you know about a special community event happening this Sunday, April 26, at Pizzaiolo restaurant in Oakland. The food at Pizzaiolo is strictly seasonal and local, prepared with great expertise and love by Charlie Hallowell (an ex-Chez Panisse chef) and his gifted team. The Sunday Soup Supper is a community outreach event providing free soup to those in need. What's different is that Pizzaiolo's regular paying customers are also encouraged to attend and enjoy the soup on a donation basis — bringing together the diverse segments of our neighborhood population to eat delicious soup and bread together.
Further, the proceeds from the paying customers will be donated to the local women and children's shelter, A Safe Place. Much of the produce for the meal is being donated by the local farmers that regularly supply the Pizzaiolo kitchen. Sounds like a great (and delicious!) way to give back to the community, and dine on some yummy gourmet soups!
