Waterleaf, Manhattan Beach.

Guest Blogger Manhattan Beach, CA based Interior Designer Megan Samuels shares one of her favorite L.A. beach haunts. Thanks Megan!

Tucked into Manhattan Beach, a town of pristine beaches, beautiful weather, beautiful homes and down to earth people, there sits a shop that suits its surroundings to a tee.

Waterleaf Interiors is an amazing jewel box filled to the brim with 'I want one of everything' items. Proprietors/designers Jill Johnson and Suzanne Ascher have paired together their classic and hip design aesthetic to create this gem of a shop. Waterleaf is the perfect melding of surfer beach chic meets east coast prep. It's sophisticated, classic and at the same time hip and not at all predictable. Products such as John Derian handmade decoupage glass sit comfortably aside the exquisitely produced and designed John Robshaw bedding.

Hanging above a custom made British colonial bed is one of the coolest most dramatic light fixtures I've seen. The fixture is a creation of Cindy Ciskowski and resembles a huge, organic Japanese lantern.

The shop also carries an extensive library of some of the best designer fabrics (Schumacher, China Seas, Raoul Textiles- to name a few) enabling one stop shopping when appointing that beach house you've always dreamed of.

Scattered about the shop are beautiful Japanese garden stools in myriad of beachy glazes, yummy candles by KOBO, striped dhurrie rugs by Dash and Albert, accessories by Hable Construction. And if when your done with the interior, the shop carries Janus et Cie outdoor furnishings (my personal pick for any patio or porch).

This seriously makes me want to board a flight JUST to see this store and buy that amazing lampshade. I love it all. Thanks for digging out this gem - I'm bookmarking it for sure!

Too bad it doesn't look like this anymore. The store has gone down hill since they opened 3 years ago.

Hey- was just @ Waterleaf this past week. The store is looking so great! They've added a whole area of baby- best fun and classic looks I've seen for children in ages. These girls have a great eye for timeless but oh so hip. ciao!!

The store is beautiful, but their in-house design services are even better! Chic style, and very efficient!
