Spring, She Has Sprung.

Say adieu to the old honey hues, and hello to warm wood and white! I've been at it again, rearranging the furniture and changing up the color scheme around here. Sorry, but the pink wall had to go (more on that later today), and the yellow sofa was cozy in front of the fireplace for the winter, but Spring has sprung and I was ready for a change. I felt a need for a little more open space in the apartment, so the dining area has been moved back to its previous home, fireside, and the mid century modern chairs are basking in the sunny bay window. Ah, it all feels much fresher to me!

Looks so lovely! Any tips on finding a good apartment in SF? I just moved here, and am on the hunt. It's quite difficult I must say. Sucks to be so picky too... + dog.

thanks guys!

allison - craigslist.com still proves to work best, but the SPCA has dog-friendly apt listings, too - and ask around at the dog parks. and just driving around the neighborhoods you like looking for signs can work (it has for me). good luck!

So bright and springy! I have been feeling the urge, too, but have been channeling it into de-cluttering since I can't change up the furniture. I have a random question that always occurs to me when you're swapping around couches, etc. Do you sell the old stuff? Do you have a storage space? I know you aren't stashing two couches in a SF closet... I'm an apartment-dweller, too, and I just feel sort of trapped by the furniture we have; I'm really wanting to get a flat-weave rug to replace our fluffy white one for summer, but I'm hesitant because of having to store the white one.

thanks katek - i usually sell the old furnishings on craigslist.com and it works out quite well. one thing in, one thing out! :)

Ah, gotcha. So the white couch and the yellow couch are gone, and then when you want a couch again you'll get a new one? You are much braver than I am, which is one of the many reasons your house looks like it's ready for a magazine shoot all the time, and mine...doesn't. :-)

i don't usually part with my more expensive items, like my white sofa...but the yellow sofa was just $65, so i don't feel bad about that! i actually gave it to a friend of mine. :)

I just love your house.....and I totally understand the rearranging! I think it's a lovely by-product of being creative! (what color did you paint your living room?) I'm having trouble finding the "right white" for my house....who knew there were 140 different versions of white? ha ha

When did you pick up the tulip chairs? I see in the June post you were wanting them and now, here they are! CL find?

beautiful home!

Lovely...have white tulip chairs just like yours and looking to replace the cushions, as they were left out in the rain for several months w/ original owner. Any ideas on where I can find new cushions or foam to recover that will fit them? Thanks!
Again, absolutely lovely!

Victoria -

just beautiful. . . I love the palette of white furniture pieces contrasted with the dark wood floor with bursts of color and the mix of new & old. . . I tell you - you MUST write a book on the subject!! You have such a wonderful way with the small and delicate details in a room.

anon - i went to foamorder.com and got a big piece of foam, cut a template and made the cushsion to fit. hope that helps!

The pink wall's gone? Noooooooo!!!!

(Although I'm sure it's been replaced with something gorgeous and imaginative. I do wish I had your eye for design - your flat looks lovelier than ever.)

Beautiful! I love how fresh and clean everything looks. And you did all of this WITH the flu?
But most importantly...where did you get your dining room table from? I know that someday I'll find the perfect blend one that is huge, dark, and hopefully of reclaimed "beat-up" wood. Yours looks perfect!
Hope you're feeling better!

alexa - this was pre-flu, on friday. :)

and my mum gave me the table - it's a 200 year old farm table she's had forever. but there's a place in L.A. called Charles & Charles and they sell similar ones.

Anon - the chairs are a craiglist find, and I don't know who made them - they are vintage mid century modern. Sorry!
